I have high feedback @ 100% positive. You WILL be happy.
I did carry large Sebbies and a Zaan for several yrs but finally figured that I might be happier with a slightly smaller knife, as my EDC needs are very casual, and am a bunch past retirement age. The last time I was in the woods was...was... can't remember.
The AVO blade thickness, as delivered by Brad Southard, is 0.140", but I can handle it easily, perhaps because the blade is only 3.3" long and the handle is 4.5" long, or about perfect for MY hand size. With many knives, I would be very happy with 0.125" blade spine thickness, but the 0.140" in the AVO is okay...as it is "transparent" to me in use...just as the "flipper" is transparent to me. The flipper in this AVO is just natural and quick and easy to deploy and I love it...without ever thinking about it being a flipper.
The entire Southard AVO is scaled down from my CRK's and is the same grip thickness....0.460"...as my Sebbies and Zaan. I have included a size-comparison pic (large Sebenza over stock AVO.)
I've been pretty content with the stock Brad Southard AVO. But, I felt that the standard model could use a little tweaking...

But I did NEED to get some work done to it...to sharpen up the jimping a bit...to thin down the blade so it would cut...and to make the grips less slippery...
so it went to REK (Josh).
What I have now is a Brad Southard AVO which has been reground and sculpted, and is a wonderful folder to hold, to carry, and to use.
It now has a full flat grind with the blade-width ground to a spine max of 0.135" with a max blade width of approx 0.080-0.090" for a full 3/4 of the blade height from edge to spine.
The blade is now 0.010" behind the edge instead of the previous 0.030" and slices Yellow Pages with ease.
Enjoy the pics... (Josh at REK does great work)
The handle is now sculpted very, very nicely and adds a nice secure feeling to the grip. The scale edges are rounded nicely for a nice, cushiony feel. I would expect that just about anyone would be delighted with this folder for EDC.
And...yes, I've just recently been reunited with a long-lost Grail that I had carried for several years, and so this beautiful modded AVO must go.
