Up for sale is this large, heavy Bowie knife that started out as a U.S. Army Model of 1904 Hospital Corps Bolo, one of more than 40,000 made by Springfield Armory in Springfield, MA between 1904 and 1914. A skilled prior owner removed part of the rounded tip and created a pronounced clip point about 3-⅝ inches in length. This knife has been used and carried but is in excellent condition.
The curved blade is 11-¾ inches long and approximately 2-½ inches wide at its widest point. The blade is marked SA / Ordinance bomb / 1908 on one side and US / 7476 on the other side. The spine is ⁵⁄₁₆ inches thick and the knife is approximately 17 inches in overall length.
The knife features a heavy brass S-shaped double guard and the finger-grooved walnut handle is approximately 5 inches long with a brass butt cap. The embossed leather sheath is custom made for the knife and includes a large belt loop and a brass retaining ring. Knife and sheath together weigh approximately 2-¼ lbs.
Asking SOLD if paid by check or money order or SOLD if paid by PayPal G&S. Price includes shipping via USPS anywhere in the continental United States.
