This hammer poll hawk was forged from a 1080 Vaughne Ball Peen hammer. The cutting edge is 3" wide and the head is 8" long overall..Very sharp, edge hardened and double tempered. forged flats on the hammer poll. Etched aged patina..The haft is very nice curly maple..Stained with aqua fortis, coated several times with boiled linseed oil and finsihed with wax..The shetah is made from 8oz leather.hand sewn and tooled.

Basically just the design or "nomenclature"..A couple of centuries ago jsut about any axe that could be used with one hand was a "hatchet"..historically speaking..
