Sold the Sebenza

I was in Nordic Knives a few days ago with $$ burning a hole in my pocket for a new Mnandi. Unfortunately, it seems like production of the Green Beret has put a slight crimp in Mnandi availability, and they only had one in stock - a $700+ tricked-out damascus version. I enjoyed playing with it, and it confirmed that that's the knife for me, but I didn't have quite that much $$. Hopefully I can pick up a standard model at the BAKCA show in a couple of weeks.

Selling a Seb is not an indictment of the knife. It's a free country and we all have our tastes. I've had a lot of knives from established makers and have sold many - it doesn't put the makers down one whit. Better it gets into the hands of those who give 'em a good home.

I sold my Seb a few years ago. And now I have one on order. Go figure.

Yea I sold my seb about a year ago and I'll tell ya.. Im probably going to end up buying another - I miss that darn knife.

Sweet looking knife Steven Roos. Who did the fizz effect? Pontiaker? PiterM? Looks good.
Matt Cucchiara (Pontiaker)

Now to convince Tom Mayo that he can do one more...:D

I've owned close to ten Sebenza's in various flavours, as well as an Umfaan and the Mnandi, now the Mnandi was close, recently was looking at getting another one, but last minute changed my mind. One knife that I use, that has a blade shape close in size to the Mnandi is the Kershaw Double Cross, and it's blade grind just plain out cut the Mnandi I had owned, now that may seem odd, and recent ones I've had come through the shop had a better grind, thinner, but the Double Cross handles the cutting chores as easily or better, though not as flashy as the Mnandi, plus I have a small wharncliff in the handle as an extra cutting blade ;)

The main blade has a nice slight recurve to it and the grind goes down almost like a moran style edge, very sharp and quick to cut, even though it has a lowly steel, it keeps the edge pretty well.

Waitin' on a modified wharncliff from the Reeve's someday they'll make one with a lower point, :)

I'll be there on Saturday myself. We should have a Blade forum get together.

The Sebenza is not for everyone. I love them myself. Simple, clean, precise.
