For sale: Three traditional Japanese style tantos from Cold Steel.
These were purchased from the Cold Steel catalog some time ago. There is no label on the blades. I’m pretty sure that they are of Chinese origin. I cannot find these particular models listed on the Cold Steel site. I cannot find my receipts, but believe they ranged from $175 to $200, each.
They range in blade length from 9-5/16”, 11”, to 11-3/8”. I believe that they are made from either 1055 or 1060 steel. All, one inch wide at the habaki. The handles are all about 5-1/2” long. The seppa and tsuba are all the same, but the rest of the handle furniture varies for each one.
They all have a shinogi zukuri grind with an ioni muni (peaked spine). The middle, 11” blade has double partial bohi (grooves/fullers). Each blade is of a slightly different shape.
All of the saya (scabbards) are made in the same style and have a glossy black finish. The sageo (chord on the saya) for the 11” blade, came as shown - untied and short.
These have not been used nor sharpened. Though they have been sharpened at the forge, they are pretty dull. The blades came with some sort of uneven wax(?) finish, which I wiped off. The saya mouths are a bit waxy, so the habaki
will get a bit streaky when the blade is inserted and released.
I would like to sell these as set, $350 for all three. If I do have to sell them separately, I will ask $150 each. All three SOLD. Thank you!
Thank you for looking. Feel free to ask questions. PayPal G&S works for me. Shipping out of the US may raise the price as appropriate. Mike
