Up for sale today is what I would classify as a user TOPS Operator 7 in the acid rain finish. I purchased this knife brand new and I am the original owner.
This is a big chungus of a knife. Very similar to a Cold Steel Recon Scout in overall size and thickness. It has a super thick blade at 5/16” thick and made of American 1075 high carbon steel. Don’t be fooled by the thickness, the near full flat grind and relatively shallow edge angle makes it cut better than it should given the dimensions. The handle is superbly comfortable made of a red micarta and black G10 that is very well rounded. It has a deep finger choil and even though it has a dual cross guard it is easy to choke up and to finer tasks. Comes with the original kydex sheath and leather dangler. TOPS makes very tight and sturdy kydex sheaths and this is no exception. No rattle or movement, yet easy enough to draw with the push of your thumb.
Why I’m classifying it as a user:
I have batonned it through some 2x4’s and did a lot of carving with it. I have also sharpened it but I have not changed the factory edge angle. The finish on the blade is basically untouched but that’s not the same for the handle. TOPS states that this knife is basically acid washed from the factory and then coated in a “clear cerakote”. I’ve noticed through use that the clear coat on the steel of the handle has turned brown, worn down, and flaked off. It’s completely gone from the spine side and is still flaking off on the edge side. You’ll see it in the pics. I assure you it isn’t rust because I can scratch it off with my fingernail. It’s the clear coat wearing away. You’ll also see some darkening on the spine side of the handle that I believe is patina forming from where I placed my thumb while using it. All this in no way effects function but it is definitely a cosmetic flaw.
This knife will come with the original box, kydex sheath, leather dangler, and TOPS survival whistle. I do not have the beaded chain for the whistle however.
