The Gerber Bowie Utility Model No. 5978 was introduced at the 1989 S.H.O.T. Show and was very popular throughout most of the 1990s. Earlier examples came in the orange-and-white box, later ones in the blue-and-black box. This is an unused earlier example in new old stock condition with its original sheath and box.

The knife measures approximately 14-¾ inches in overall length with a clip point blade about 9-½ inches long and more than
¼-inch thick, a black composite coffin-style handle with a brass-lined lanyard hole and a brass double guard (see photos). The blade has a gray satin finish and the ricasso is marked “GERBER / U.S.A” on one side and “PORTLAND, OR / 97223 U.S.A.” on the other side (see photos). The black nylon ballistic cloth sheath is marked on the back “Gerber Logo / Portland, OR 97223” (see photos).

The knife is in very fine new old stock condition, with its original factory edge, all of its original finish, little or no signs of use or wear and a textbook patina on the guard. The sheath is also in very fine new old stock condition, with little or no signs of use or wear (see photos). The box is in very good condition, with modest signs of storage and handling wear (see photos).

Asking price is $335, which includes shipping via USPS Ground Advantage anywhere in the continental US.

Reasonable offers are welcome, no trades, thanks.
