This is a "new old stock" vintage H & B camp axe from the original Will Barber era...has the old 'H & B' touchmark. I cleaned the head, polished the edge and poll areas and honed. It came to me without a handle so I hand carved a new handle from fancy, seasoned Euro Walnut - great chatoyance! I borrowed the shape and profile design from one of Lee Reeves handle profiles (he designed and forged one of the "slickest" camp hatchets ever...) This is a comfortable fit to your hand! If you're not familiar with the old H & B forged steel, the bit uses type 1095 steel which runs down the center of the blade. Then a wrap of 1018 steel is forge welded "sandwiching" the bit resulting in sharp and long lasting working edge. Standard distressed leather cover comes with. Overall length is 13"....cutting edge is 3 1/4". The size, feel and performance is going to be almost identical to a Reeves....No disappointments
