Up for sale is this very nice example of a vintage Western W49 Bowie with its original leather sheath. Western first produced this design during WW II as an Army Air Corps Survival Bowie designated the Bx-54 Bushman (and sometimes called a“V-44”). Western produced the Bowie for the commercial market starting in about 1965 and continued through the sale of the company to Camillus Cutlery in 1991.
This example is marked on one side of the ricasso “WESTERN / U.S.A. W49 / I”, which dates this knife to 1985. The leather sheath includes a “dangler” feature, is marked “WESTERN” on the front, "Western Cutlery" on the snap and is correct and original to the knife. The knife measures approximately 14-⅝ inches in overall length and weighs 1 lb., 5oz. (a bit over 1 lb., 10 oz. in the sheath). The clip point blade measures about 9-½ inches long and 2-⅛ inches at its widest point. The S-shaped double guard is brass and the handle is hardwood (rosewood?) secured by three pins.
The knife appears unused and in excellent original condition, with its original factory edge, bright finish, clear markings and little or no signs of use, carry or wear (see photos). There are a few small dark spots scattered on the blade, consistent with its age (see photos). The sheath is also in excellent original condition, showing little or no signs of use or carry and minor signs of storage and handling wear (see photos).
Price: Asking $155, reasonable offers are welcome, no trades, thanks.
Shipping: The price includes shipping via USPS Ground Advantage anywhere in the continental US.
Payment: Payment may be made via Zelle, CashApp, USPS money order or personal check as long as you're willing to wait for the check to clear before the item ships. Sorry, I no longer use PayPal.
First “I’ll take it” posted here has priority, please DM me with any questions or offers, thanks.
More pics to follow.
