Hickory, it's not fancy, but it's tough, about the toughest natural handle wood there is! I've got eight pieces of (mostly) quarter sawn hickory, some of the most respected toughest handle wood on the planet, up for sale...cheap! I rubbed the surfaces with a bit of alcohol to give you an idea of the grain's (subdued) patterns. The images of are of the face, edge, and end grain (5⅛"x1⅝"x1").
