Hello, I don't even remember my name, but I know I used to work in the lumber mill. Back then I was a lot bigger, but I was soft. Sure I could rip through wood without taking damage, but I felt like I was always going in circles. Then I was put outside, and left to rust, can you believe that! But someone saw my potential, and took me in, and put me through a serious process of self improvement. I have lost a lot of weight, and shed my rust. Here I am, the one in the middle, a year ago. You can see I had already started to lose weight by then.

I don't have a new name yet, so well my new name is up to you to decide, but since that last picture I have gained in finesse more than what I lost in size, and where I was once soft and dull, I am now hard and sharp, and ready for a much more intimate type of wood working.

Where I was once over 15 lbs. I am now 28 oz.
I was once 26" across and over 550 square inches, now I am a lean and mean 24 1/4" long and 2 1/2" at my widest point, and I've gained two tough slabs of beautiful 8" long red and black G10.

And the best part, where I was once soft and dull, I am now hard and sharp, after being annealed, normalized, heat treated, quenched, and tempered . I am a new "man"! I'm ready to work hard for you, please find below my brief portfolio:

I'm interested! Do you have more specs on it? I'm assuming it's l6 or the like but how thick is it and roughly what hardness is it at?

Hi Buckmaster, thank you for your interest!

I can imagine you are referring to "Step-By-Step Knifemaking" by David Boye, where he indicates that many sawmill blades are made from L6. I bought the sawmill blade from a guy in Manitoba over ebay. It is 1/8" thick. He didn't know the exact steel, but I had Andy (my large blade heat treatment guy) heat treat it per the specifications given by Kevin Cashen for 1080/1084, which will is also going to work for L6 if that turns out to be what it is.

Between the large blades he has done for me and the smaller ones I have done in my small forge at home, we have found that these high carbon sawmill blades respond very well to this protocol, and perform as expected for the target rockwell. We don't at this time have a rockwell tester, but if it is 1080, the 450° temper I had him do should get us around 57-58, whereas if it is L6, it should get us around 58-59. I would not be able to tell the difference in use between these, but I can say I would be confident using this blade. I wouldn't leave it wet, though, haha.
