i wouldn't necessarily call it "freaking out". i love the knife maybe that's why i've shown some concern and simply asked for other opinions. relax...your response is pointless...
it's simply a matter of F&F and if this sort of thing was typical..

I've got a few Para 2s and they've all got the cut outs. They're probably used for locking the liners in place during machining. I wouldn't give it a second thought.
 
I don't know why anyone's giving the OP grief for asking a simple question regarding the fit and finish of a new Spyderco. I wondered the same thing and almost started my own thread when I noticed them on mine, so there.

For the record: Both my Para 2's have the nicks and both also had (still slightly do) sticky locks so in other words, welcome to the club.
 
+1 we got nicks. Perhaps they'll be collectable in the future as first run indicators. ;)
