Soldier/SI

Just to make sure I wasn't going crazy, I grabbed another SI from my collection. No crinking/krinking (is there a definitive spelling of this word?) was found on the knife blade. I went as far as laying each knife down on the edge of a table, so that most of the handle was laying flat (all but the part where the bail is mounted), and examining the gap between the blade and the top of the table. Neither SI, both of which are marked 04, has crinked blades. My Vic Soldier, Farmer and Electrition Plus all have crinked blades, the Soldier being more crinked than the Farmer and Electrician Plus.

Can't find the source but I swear I read that the Vic had a thicker blade, or at least stayed full thickness farther out than the Wenger. Maybe another reason for the krink.

If anything, it's the reverse on my knives. The thickness of the spine of my SI and Soldier are nearly identical at the tang, but as the spine begins to drop toward the tip, the Soldier drops off more quickly than the SI. The spine of my SI, directly above the nail nick, measure out .071". The same spot on my Soldier measures out to .061".

OK geez, I have a Farmer and a Cadet, so now I'm going to do the only reasonable thing I can think of and get one of each. :p

My SI is not krinked but it remains thicker towards the tip compared to my Vic Soldiers. The SI's blade is also thicker at the edge. Mine doesn't have a year stamp and I just got it a few months ago so I'm guessing that it's a '09 or '10. Did they stop stamping them at the same time Vic stopped producing the Soldier? Also the reamer on my SI is identical to those on my Soldiers and +B Bushcrafter. Maybe since Victorinox owns Wenger anyway it's just cheaper to use the same reamers for both brands.

Yeah, I checked out an SI at Gander Mountain and it had the Vic style reamer. Blade appeared to be non krinked but I was checking it out through the package.

for anyone interested here, i recently found/purchased a vic 08 alox soldier at a local ace hardware store. hope this helps anyone looking for the vic soldier old style.
