Soldier's Knife

This is a good, strong knife. I was using it tonight, on a fire mission, to PRY 120mm mortar "tootsie rolls" out of their crate.

This is just one reminder of the many kindnesses I have been shown by the members here. Thanks.

BTW Thank You For Your Service
The knife is indeed a beauty

Dang I have not been on line in forever....

ANd I finally got on here...and ther's my knife...in John's hand...in Afghanistan?

WHat a RUSH!

AND it was working....breaking out mortar rouns that were frozen in the crate...?!?!?!?

Ok guys...for all you who argue a knife ain't a prybar....and should not be used to pry....

There it is...from a soldier in the field...doing his job...

(Sorry I just had to stir the pot!)

Sort of feeling proud today!

Thanks for posting the pic John!

I just looked in the mirror, I know Butt Ugly when I see it now.
Sorry your knife does not qualify.I'd would be pleased to produce
something like that!

Aww...jeez....

I appreciate that....

Really...as you learn any trade...as a maker...you just keep learning more and more...

And you start to realize...that what you got to learn is more than what you know....

Does that make any sense?

Last Fall I got to go to the Big Sky Hammer In....

One of the instructors was a guy named Tim Hancock.

Tim had a knife there...he called it his most perfect knife...he made it as a proto for a prodution knife deal for Schrade...just before they went out of business...

Honestly,it was as close to technical perfection as anything I ever dreamed of...and it was straight up gorgeous....

When you start out...you get so blown up over anything you do right....that you gives a big head...and then you see stuff that shrinks it down again...

Well...that's where I am at in the knife world...

My stuff is pretty humble....

It cuts good...and don't break when somebody uses it...

And don't embarass me...when somebody looks at it....

But I keep plunking away at it....

And each one gets better....

Jeez...I am rambling...too much coffee this morning I guess....

Thanks again,

Shane

Good looking knife Shane!!

And more good news. Its coming home soon! Can't wait to have you home John.

Amen!

I could NOT give a Tinker's Damn whether that knife comes back...as long as John come's home....

And all of our good men and women as well.

Shane

What a great thread. I hope Spectre (and his comrades-in-arms) get home safe, and has many happy years to enjoy that knife.

Yeah buddy....

I speak to John on the phone often...

...and you know what?

Not a day goes by when I ain't scared constipated for him...

...and out folks over there.

It is pretty hairy...and then some...

Shane

Hey that's a great looking blade Shane  I would have guessed the handle material as some type of light colored wood from the pics, never seen G10 that color before. You watch yourself over there John, (I must be the ten thousandth person to tell you that eh ? ;) ) we want you coming back here in ship shape bro :) . Thanks so much for your service, and thanks goes out to you too Shane Justice

Call me Shane...

Hell...it's my real name.....I ain't smart enough to use a fake....

Jeez...somebody actually accused me once of making it up...siad it sounded like some kinda gun fighter or something...I told them to blame my parents...

That G10 came from Chuck Bybee at Alpha Knife...and was donated by Chuck...

Them Bybee's is good people...

I think they had it labeled as Light Green...but it worked into a sort of pretty beeswax color..and sort of glowed after I worked it....

I expect now it has seen some use it is moe of a yellow color....

But John said it held up good...

He wants me to make a BIG knife to match it....

I expect I will....

Anyhow....

Thanks,

Shane
