Recommendation? Solid and Durable Folding Knives

I like the marksman, the only thing I would caution you about is the lock. If you somehow drop it or something impacts the backstrap straight on, it will knock the lock back and make it unusable until you are able to use tools to adjust it back. It's the only real shortcoming, but in my mind a significant one. It happened to me and at least one other person here. Unfortunately that knocked it out of an edc role and relegated it to be a knife I just keep inside to cut things occasionally with.
Thanks for sharing that. I'd heard there was a issue with the lock "jamming" on the Marksman and this must be it.

The more I look into flippers and remember my old flipper I had the more I want one. Anyone have a flipper that they like that can take a beating?

Yeah that's it. If it didn't have that moving part, I really don't think there would be as much of an issue. But the more parts, the more things to go wrong.

What about the ZT566? You could probably find ones barely used for a good price
That knife actually looks really cool. I like the thicker blade and shorter blade length. The deep carry pocket clip is a major plus as well. Luckily, they have one at a Cabelas about an hour from my house. Maybe I'll go look at it. Anyway, I was also interested in the 0450 (might not be the best for camping but still)... Any thoughts?

I have a 450 in carbon fiber, great little knife, very fun to flip. I don't know if I'd use the carbon fiber version for crazy abusive tasks but still very capable. The full ti version of the 450 makes it a lot more solid feeling and robust but definitely heavier. Be forewarned it is on the smaller size. See if you can handle one in person. I like the size but if you have giant hands it might be too small.

I have a zt 0566 and zt 0350. I de-assisted both and they are nice manual flippers. The thumb studs also work better de-assisted. The 0450 is nice and I edc mine but on the smaller side. The 0566 or 0350 would be a great investment.

Yeah the size is the only thing I was worried about but luckily they have one at Cabelas as well :) I would definitely get the Ti version but the Carbon is definitely very very good looking.

Interesting that you de-assisted them but if it works that may acually be a mod I would think about. The problem I find with the 0566 and 0350 is that they are a bit beefy for EDC but perfect for heavier usuage. I guess I just have to figure out if I want to go full EDC or get a bigger knife that can double as an EDC.

Both the tops/buck csar-t (,18" thick blade 154cmmby bos)'and the Ontario xm-1m(n690co steel made by Fox knives inItaly for US operations in Iraq are $95'and $60-$75!repectively can take a serious beating prying, even batoning on non-wooden objects. I think the buck is a bit sturdier, as the Ontario blade is only .165"'thick and the liner lock isn't as sturdy either. Both are great!

Maybe save up a bit more and get the full sized zt452? It's nice and slim but sturdy and a bit bigger

Really awesome looking knife. Looks like a beefier 0450 to me. A bit to expensive though. The 4 inch blade also is a little big for my liking. Really pretty knife though.

The 0452 is on my list. A nice folding sword. What is big or small edc is all in the eyes of the beholder. I think my 0450 is small and think the 0350 and 0566 are the right size. It all depends on what you will be doing with it. Will the 0450 handle your edc and camp work. It is an excellent knife.

Thanks for all the help guys :) I just ordered the Ti ZT 0450 from Amazon and got free one day shipping! It is guaranteed to be here tomorrow, I'm STOKED! I'll let you all know what I think when it arrives. Without you guys I probably would have just bought a cheap off brand flipper and been disappointed haha. Sucks that I couldn't have gotten all the knives that you guys recommended, but maybe I'll be able to own them all at some point in my life. Thanks again for all of the help

I don't know if it's been mentioned already, but the Spyderco Manix 2 in some flavor would suit you just fine! Solid, ergonomic in hand, thin slicey grind, and 2 different lock types for it as well. You can find them for around $100 on the secondary market...

One super solid knife I've been enjoying lately..
