Contemplated a homemade ti hiking staff but am gravitating towards a carbon fibre take down staff instead.
 
I posted a link to this company on another forum because I know a few people that use canes and thought they might like them. They do. :) Thanks for the link.
 
Maybe I'm wrong, but carrying around a 2 pound cane will get a bit tiresome... unless you consider it part of your everyday workout routine.
 
Two pounds could be a drag. :) But that depends -- are you carrying the cane or is the cane carrying you? A good grip under the knob or crook and swing the tip forward. The cane walks itself.

I see these as more than a cane in many instances and durability and weight aren't so much an issue. Many places don't allow SD tools (guns, knives, clubs, even mace), however they will allow the use and carrying of a cane, even TSA and cruise ships allow canes.
