... these companies still produce knives in Germany : Lowen Messer, Heinrich Schmitz and Robert Herder "Windmühlenmesser" (windmill brand). ...

Heinrich Schmitz' website
http://www.messergriffe.de/indexe.htm
is indicating the company as 'Knife scales and haft factory'. Just one knife pattern of a sodbuster is offered in two sizes with a lot of options concerning wooden scales.

Robert Herdes is maker of vintage style kitchen knives and a series of vintage style table ware. Just one simple pocket knife is offered under 'Windmuehle' brand, obviously contract made by Heinrich Schmitz.

... Herbertz is just an importeur for knives from the Far East (and that almost for a long time). ...

C. Jul. Herbertz is not 'just an importer' but a wholesaler, marketing even PUMA brand, Friedrich Hartkopf, and Eickhorn-Solingen knives.

... From what I know: F. Olbertz (Carl Schlieper ...) are still made in Germany. ...

I doubt that Carl Schlieper is an existing company or a subsidiary of Olbertz company. Please advise, Humppa.

Please also note my request referring to post # 16, Humppa.

Anyway all 'Boker Plus' branded knives are made in Far East.

Prior to Car Schlieper's bankruptcy Olbertz was just one of several Solingen cutlers, being contracted by Car Schlieper, having the rights for the trademark EYEBRAND.
Schlieper also contracted makers in Far east during the 1980s.

No. The rights for WEIDMANNSHEIL trademark were being granted to Wilhelm Weltersbach cutler in 1934, and sold to Josef Th. Diefenthal cutler in 1998. Olbertz never was contracted by these Solingen cutlers. It is reported that Diefenthal company has put Olbertz company on trial for distributing knives with the WEIDMANNSHEIL mark rightless in c.2000.

I think if you read my post in its entirety (as to actual makers over the last 20 years, regardless of their legal standing) you will notice it is much more accurate. Admittedly you probably have nailed the 80 year old history; but my post was in respect to recent German manufacture, not their foreign contract knives or the full 20th century activities. Hope that helps.

You are correct, Boker has knives made in at least two locations other than Germany; but not referenced as not asked by the OP.

All recent Eye Brand, since mid 1990's, has been via Olbertz.

All recent Weidmannsheil imported to the US, since late 1990's, has been via Olbertz - whether legally or not.

I did understand your post starting
I don't know about the older ones; but in the last 20 years...
That’s why I thought it might be of interest to learn, what happened prior to the 1990s.

In regards to your information

That is surely correct. I know that a few years ago such knives were offered boxed with such an oval sticker:

Unfortunately the maker (or distributor) was not familar with the history or had another intention. The WEIDMANNSHEIL trademark will celebrate its centennial in the year 2034 only. Maybe collectors like being foolished?

Thanks for sharing your knowledge, germania. Much appreciated.

Well - I only got my wisdom on german cutleries by reading / studying the german knife magazine "Messer Magazin". Maybe you have another source...

On Herbertz I used the wrong term. On the Weidmannsheil / Waidmannsheil knives I wasn´t sure and on what was dizzily writting together about Carl Schlieper, Olbertz, Hartkopf and all the others I´be learned from "Messer Magazin" due to a deep interesst of your cultural heritage in general (not only knives, firearms, tools etc etc).

... however I´m out of this thread ... sorry for making the mistakes and my lack of knowledge.

IMG_0336.JPG IMG_0337.JPG IMG_0338.JPG Got a Solingen Bowie knife with a stag handle from an antique store. It is Toro brand from Solingen, but also has Alemania on the opposite side, Spanish for Germany. Schmidt & Zieglar either made or just had made this brand according to some news in this old thread? Was the
Toro brand imported into Spain or Latin America? Any more news on Schmidt & Zieglar? I found the exact same knife up for sale on some old auction sites, 6 inch blade, very thick, and I assume carbon steel because it had a decently sharp edge in it, even after looking at it in the store for several months.
