Did my first solo over nighter at the cabin Saturday night, and took my new Yuma with me , to give her a go.

It was beautiful out when I go there:

Some shots of the Yuma, before I put her to work:

Ah yes, fits my hand, nice:

A little batonning. Worked perfectly:

I'm not great at feather sticking, but it worked well:

Was nice walking around the cabin with my knife on my side the whole time, with nobody to worry about:

12.png

This is my 6th time at the cabin. Only one time have I not seen a box turtle. 'Twas a female:

Hey, what's this?:

Let's see here, nice blade shape, plunge line looks great, T.M.Hunt, whoever the hell that is:

Nice handle contouring, love the colors, with a beak that resembles mine:

I'll take it:

Batonned a bit bigger log. Worked awesome. That's not a cut from the knife, I was breaking up some small branches, and one got me:

Improving on Todd's heat treat. :D :

Sun going down behind the hill:

Fire felt great. It got down in the low 40's:

32.png

Went right to sleep, but woke up cold, and couldn't get back to sleep. Decided to get up and get a fire going:

33.png

Another pretty day out. Takes a bit for the sun to get over the valley:

34.png

Decided to do breakfast on the Emberlit:

Used the Yuma to scrape some cedar shavings. This stuff is like paper:

37.png

38.png

My prep. Cedar shavings, weeds pulled from the side of the hill, that were dry, 2 progressive sized sticks, short fat ones to get a coal base going, and my feeder sticks:

39.png

Everything was slightly damp from the morning dew, so I let it set out by the fire for a bit, to dry it out:

To be continued...

Potatoes. No Yuma for this task, a thin paring knife for the job:

41.png

Lighting up the shavings. Fire steel, or flint and steel would have been cooler, but hey, a Bic is faster:

43.png

44.png

Add the weeds. Looks sloppy, but was hard doing stuff with my left hand, while I took shots with my right:

Took a green stick, to make some "pliers" to put the grate on top:

Get the bacon going. Can never have too many shots of bacon:

Fire still going good:

Efficient burn:

Good breakfast. I forgot to buy orange juice, so Pepsi had to suffice, haha:

Yum:

67.png

Yes it was good, thank you:

I just liked this photo:

69.png

I had an idea. Made another feather stick:

70.png

Broke it off:

71.png

Then used it for a brush, to clean the ash off my Emberlit. Worked out good:

Lizard. They were all over the place. This one got tired of running from me, and decided to pose for a few shots:

Saw this guy a bit later on. It was shedding:

Took my camera in the shitter with me. This is the view from there. :D :

Weed wacked the grass, and packed up:

Had a good time, but was a bit lonely. The Yuma performed flawlessly. Thanks again Todd, very much appreciated brother.

Thanks for looking.

Looks like a relaxing weekend Warrior! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks man. I had fun, and it was very peaceful and relaxing, but I prefer someone to go with me. Good to sit back and reflect though.

Awesome pics Dubz, looks like a peaceful trip. You probably put more time in this thread than I did making the knife ;) lol. Thanks for taking me along and hope that Yuma gives you many years of good service. You deserve it............next time you see that turtle, give it my contact info and maybe I can hook it up with a custom piece. :D

Thanks man. It was peaceful.

It does take some time making these type threads. I took like 225 photos, narrowed it down to these 80, haha. Then, resize them, enhance them in GIMP, upload all of them, then tell my story, and paste them here. Worth it though.

I'm more than certain the Yuma will last my lifetime, then passed down to my son, for the rest of his life, etc. Awesome blade man.

I'll let the turtle know. ;)

Dubz! It looks like you had a good time - even if it was a little more solitary than you'd prefer. It's nice seeing that knife after it has been finished up and now put to good use. The turtle was cracking me up.

Pic heavy for sure! A fine time out Dubz. Not sure why you'd need a paring knife when you've already got a Yuma.

Looks like an awesome time Dubs!

Amanda and I just looked at all the pictures. We really liked the reptile pictures. Amanda asked if you were coming to the Northeast gathering and if you would bring her a turtle. I told her that is wasn't going to happen. LOL.

Looks like your getting a lot of work done at the new cabin.

Oh yeah, Nice knife too! I am glad to see something that actually fits your hand.

Can't wait to see more pictures.

Jeremy

Thanks man, it was fun. The lizards were all over the place. I think they're called fence lizards, or just blue belly. Skinks are all over the place as well. I saw 2 blue tailed skinks, and one "regular" one. I got a photo of it, but it was blurry. Crazy how many turtles are in the area. I've got a lot cleared out at the cabin. I need to get there for a few days, and get some painting done. I want to paint the eaves with a good oil based primer, then after t dries, wrap it in a vinyl fascia. I like the maintenance free thang. The Yuma rocks man, love it.

Cool pictures. Loved the scenery. Are you sure you were in Illinois? Lol jk

Thanks man. Nah, the cabin is in the Ozark mountains of the Mark Twain National Forest, Missouri, but southern Illinois, in the Shawnee National Forest, is beautiful.

Congrats on an awesome weekend W! I love seeing the Yuma and keep hoping to have one soon.:D

Some day I'll have a little getaway cabin like that. I'm hoping for the Texas hill country or maybe eastern Apalachia. I've never been east of the Missippi for any camping but my brother-in-law says its pretty awesome in North Carolina.

The Yuma is awesome. It reeks of heavy duty when you hold one for the first time. I love it man.

Having the cabin has been a blessing. Missouri, and Arkansas seem to have the cheapest land close to me.
