Solomon Kane - the movie

Awesome!!! I didn't know they were making a Solomon Kane movie. I'm a big fan of all Robert E. Howard's writings. I wish they'd make another Conan movie.

Now if they will just release it in the US there is still no release date I can find. It sucks that a lot of movies are never released because they aren't going to be blockbusters.

By the way, in the fight scene in the beginning of the movie, Solomon is fighting some soldiers who seem to use a very kukri-like sword.

It looks like the Red Nails animated film is stuck in limbo indefinitely. :(

I remember reading about this Solomon Kane film a while back, but this is the first I've SEEN of it. My only exposure to the character has been the comic book adaptations in Savage Sword of Conan. I'd imagine, in the tradition of such movie adaptations, that any number of liberties will be taken with the franchise. I may give it a chance though if it shows promise... and actually gets released!

I heard something several years ago about a new Conan movie with the Rock playing Conan. I'm kinda glad nothing came of that one.

Yeah. Heck, even Arnie doesn't seem quite right to me. The guy who played Conan in the TV series was a little more like I'd imagine him... too bad the show kinda sucked. :(

I don't think conan was supposed to be as big as arnold or the rock according to the books. More like the guy who played in "The Punisher" movie.

I seem to recall Conan being described as pretty massive, but not to the point where it affects mobility, in the books.

Yeah, I agree about Conan. Sort of a tall rock climber, ( the free hand kind with the chalk bag). At least in his youth, not that silly-'he pushed the wheat crushing stone thing for 10 years and got massive'...c'mon:)
My favorite artist in the Conan vein is Barry Smith, his Conan's looked closest to the books, IMO.

Soloman Kane was a fun read in the Savage Swords too. I made a Rock Maple short sword for my daughter a few years ago for cosplay, i could easily see a short rapier looking anti-vampire weapon for Soloman being used to poke the undead.

Ah, yes. Barry Windsor Smith did the best Conan art, IMO. He is a master of fine line artwork.

Howard often referred to Conan as being pantherish, and catlike, not over muscled or bulky. He often referred to Solomon Kane as wolfish and lean...Both great characters but Solomon Kane was always my favorite...

Last I saw it had release dates all over the world starting in Dec of last year but absolutely no US release dates and not even a distributor yet.

I'm looking forward to seeing this, so I looked it up on IMDB. It seems that the star, James Purefoy, will also be in John Carter of Mars in 2012!

The artist whose rendition of the bronze-thewed Cimmerian that most often springs to mind for me, regardless of the level of accuracy, is Ernie Chan.

And not the kind of poking Twilight fans would like to do! :barf:

Aye,. panther-like celerity and all that. Of course, the big cats are no slouch in the muscle department.

This was my favorite cat we had in the backyard. He is a clouded leopard and at the time of this pic he was around 18 years old. He walked like a little old man until he saw the cheetahs next to him. Then he was a young cub again ready to kill them if he could only get a hold of them. He passed at around 20 or so from old age. Indri was the only cat that actually scared me. He had all his claws, canines the size of tiger's canines, and very muscular.
