Solvang 2016 Show Review

Hi David, good to hear from you.

Early last week, I called Dave to find out if he thought he would have the shipment by show day. He said he figured it would be a 50-50 chance of arrival by then. My hopes were answered when, at 10am sharp, I walked in the door to find a few books stacked up for sale. I was ecstatic, to say the least. No one can do what you do, and do so well. I'm still loving turning the pages on a daily basis.

As to the Best "Cutlass", the imagery above was from the shoot Dave does of every primary piece for the show. Coop had actually imaged it even before the above pics were taken. I'll do a thread on the piece sooner than later after I speak to Ron about the manner in which the handle (it's integral to the blade, I'm referring to the insets in the handle) went together, at which point I'll use Coop's hi-res image. It incorporates much more detail than the above two images.

another great acquisition for a great maker Bob. Ron does some amazing knives and nice to see that he is still offering some fixed blades (although this might be an earlier piece prior to his adventure into the folder realm) Easy to understand his 2 time win of the Cronk Award.

No, Murray, this "Cutlass" was made/finished for this show. And rather than having a thin handle profile, it is substantial and fills the hand completely.

I doubt most makers would bring any of their older, unsold pieces to the Solvang Invitational. Actually, every piece Ron produces gets purchased almost immediately. No unsold inventory. And the current models, the flippers, he cannot even keep up with the orders.

Always enjoy your show reports too, thanks for taking the time to put it together. That winery looked like a great trip on its own.
