Some Autumn Foraging & Experimenting With The Missus

No worries man. I got the idea to get it from friends here. Several of my friends here have built kits around these water bottle carriers. If you do a search you can find some cool ideas.

I'll check that out. Thanks for the tip  :)

Nice thread Mist - its great to get the wife in the field when they are interested in it. I can drag mine out for the odd camping trip in ideal weather but she rarely will just romp off into the local fields with me like that. I keep telling her its quality time together and she rhetorts that this is why I should go shopping with her.....Alas, you can never win an argument with your spouse! That first set of berries could be moonseed, but the leaves sure as heck look like grape. Apparently, moonseed is toxic in large amounts but the berry tastes like crap.

nice pics, man! is your wife ambidextrous? i see her switching hands with the knife.

You're quite welcome, I've seen some cool kits made from them. I know Bryan Breeden made a kit around one, and another friend did a pretty in depth post on the kit he built. Several other have since then I believe.

Thanks Ken, I know what you mean. I can only ever get her out in the woods in the autumn, the milder parts of the winter, and some of spring. No dice during the hottest part of the summer or the coldest part of the winter. Thanks, I've been meaning to look it up, but haven't gotten around to it yet.

Thanks man. We both are to an extent...in anything but hand writing...

Nice rich field with lots of fruit you have, Mistwalker.
I'm quite envious as I've got no wild fruit so far.
Thanks for sharing nice shots!

Well, it's my field only in the sense that it belongs to all who live in this state and pay taxes...but it is one of my favorite places to wander around and hang out in during the late summer and autumn :) .

great pics!!! i too recently got a mk1 love the little sucker!!

Thanks man, glad you enjoyed them! Shortly after Lisa and I first got together about a decade ago she worked at a local army surplus store. We spent a lot of time in local mountain streams hiking and playing so I wanted something besides the old SOG S1 that I usually carried for waterborne adventures. I bought a Ka-Bar, a 1212 I think, and modified the sheath into a drop sheath. She liked it so she picked up a short tanto (it was nice having access to her discount) and had me rig it the same way for her. She learned over time why I'm not really crazy about tanto blades for woods use, and that with her long fingers the handles of the short Ka-Bars aren't really comfortable to her as she digs her nails into the base of her thumb in a tight grip. When I got the MK1 she fell in love with it. She said I had plenty of knives and that the MK1, with the fat handle, was more suited for her than any knife I had given her so far. I said fine, that gives me an excuse to get the leather handled one as I like the design a lot...and have a thing for stacked leather handles. Since then a friend read my comment on that (earlier in this thread) and sent me a leather handled one which is awesome. The last few outings have been much more about getting my body back into the swing of things than working since I have been really sick for the last couple of weeks and still really weak, so the leather handled MK1 has been going with me a lot and will show up in the next thread I post.
