Assuming you are using regular alkaline batteries, the obvious problem would be electronic. I'm sure you knew that. I you are using any sort of rechargable battery then try another. Also, assuming the battery is replaceable, clean all battery contact points on battery and camera. Dirty contacts (oxidation usually) can increase resistance and cause behavior like low battery. Interior of most cameras accumulates dust, they aren't really airtight sealed. If metal/conductive dust found its way inside, that could cause the electronics to go crazy. That's potentially cleanable. If it has been dropped then a solder point could have cracked or loose wire shifted or ???.
