Some Big Life Changes

Hey Nathan great news! I just got my BS while at Tech nothing like what you're working towards. However, I worked my way through school and remember studying with buddies that had full time jobs and young families. The main thing I remember about these guys was the support their wives gave them while they worked for the groceries and the degree. It's going to be tough, but don't forget to hire a babysitter and take the wife out every once in awhile. It might mean you have to put off working on that knife for one more day. Good luck and "Go Tech"

Hi Nathan,

We've talked on the forum from time to time. I'd like to wish you good luck. But....doesn't knivemaking count towards a PHd?:)

Dave,

If only...maybe I can convince them that a PhD in materials science would be great for the program :). Thanks for the luck wishes.

Mark,

Good advice, my friend. And advice that we live by. My wife and I, even without kids at this point, still take time to specifically have a date night every month on our wedding day anniversary. And it's not just going somewhere to eat as we often do. We make it a special set apart date, and we alternate each month as to who plans it. It's something we'd like to keep going even after we have kids. Good marriages happen, but they don't stay that way without effort. That's something I've always believed and will continue to live by. No matter what profession or hobby I'm in, my wife, and then my family comes first.

Thanks for all the good thoughts, everyone. I'm looking forward to it for sure. Just 3 more weeks, and for now, I'm working hard to get everything caught up and ready for me to go at my current job.

Nathan,

Good for you man. That is really outstanding.

If you're not going to be around as much, you will me missed. I hope at some point you'll be able to come back into it again. If you ever get the time and the itch - knife making and this big group of misfits will be here.

I applaud you for your work helping people.

Nathan

That's good to hear. Good luck with the new job!

Thanks, Nathan. I appreciate that. I really see myself checking the boards still, I just may not have as much time out in the shop. In fact, it's been a month since I've done any work out there, and I haven't even started the new job yet! Just a lot of getting caught up and getting ready for the transition.

Don't shoot me guys, but I had to buy a laptop instead of a new heat treating oven :(:( Oh well, with the increased pay, maybe I can save up for a new oven over time.
