Some blades from Istanbul

Very interesting !! Could you explain the design of the P1050259 on page one ? That's very unusual !

Dang it! :( I tried to go to that museum a little over a year ago. Lots of buses, walking, underground train stuff and we get there and they were closed for maintenance or something like that. :mad: Looks like it would have been sweet to! :grumpy: It was just about as productive as my search for handle materials in Istanbul.

Sorry to her that Allen, if you come again let me know ...

Mete I have no clue, I'll ask from my friend if he has some description on that object (sword maybe:confused:)...

Those were very nice, some of the handles looked like they could have been walrus ivory. Thanks for the look.

Mete, friend informed me that the object is a sword belongs to Ziya Pacha...
The sword has wavy edge and the tip divides to two like a snake tongue...
The sword is at the bottom of that pic.:

I hadn't seen the double blade , only the wavey edge. The practicality of it escapes me !!!

That snake tongue sword is crazy. I'm curious about how it was forged like that, and what it purpose is.

It could indeed be symbolic of the snake, with the wavy blade and the split tip.

it maybe a " zulfiqar " type sword...

any close ups on the waterings.. is the fulad a large pattern or fine grained

:thumbup::thumbup:

thank you for pictures
Greg;)

Greg, these days I'm making some phone calls, mailing etc to obtain a permission to take some detailed hi-res pictures of patterns as Dmitry wanted on the other forum... I'll do my best to take some detailed photos. If I manage to arrange some photo shoots at these museums I'll let you know ASAP...
BTW it is some sort of zulufkar but the zulufkar is like a fork looking at the profile. This sword is like a normal sword profile but it is forked at the thickness, which is to very peculiar...
