Some Buck 112 Love

The Zieg The Zieg According to Larry Oden, in his book 'Holding An Edge', 425M was phased in around 1983. 420HC was phased in around 1992. HTH

Oden said that 425M steel was not made in enough volume to keep costs in line so they went to 420HC.

Where does one acquire this knife?
That is not a regular production/catalog item. Skylar doesn't get on the forum much, so I'll give what information I have gleaned.

The frame is that of a 110, between 1994 and 2019 that has the laminated and dyed obeche wood. The blade is probably from a 0442 Bucklite.

Possibly put together by one of the skilled aftermarket craftsman(Leroy Remer or Wilde Bill Cody) or another.

There was a time when Buck would put together knives from parts leftover from various production runs and this could have been how Skylar acquired the knife.

Hopefully he'll check in and give the information you want.

Most of the ones I've seen were from 25th anniversary 112s. First NS 112 frames. Wood is right as well. That blade is a 450 Protégé.

I have 2 25th 112 blades hanging in my shop and 2 450 frames, so I've done at least 2 of those swaps over the years.

I just got the newest 112 from the Danny collection and instead of it going into the Sackup's for display I decided to use it..Mainly because of the steel. This is only the second S45VN 112 (the other was the Koa LE) and it's REALLY sharp! I stack up mail and then go thru it and a really sharp edge makes it easy to open it. It bit me under my left forearm and I didn't notice until a few drops of blood were on my desk. I love a really sharp Buck!20231028_142112.jpg
