I WAS THE MOST ACCURATE WITH THE RANGER-BUT THE GRIP NEEDS TO BE SANDED DOWN TO FIT MY HAND BETTER

THE BECKER BIT THE DEEPEST(AS IT WAS THINNEST)-ALSO VERY FAST IN HAND-AND BILL SIEGLES GRIPS FEEL GREAT

THE DOGFATHER WAS LESS COMFORTABLE THAN THE COLD STEEL TRAILMASTER IN MY HANDS--BUT CHOPS VERY VERY WELL.

THE KUKRI BIT DEEP--BUT I'M NOT A FAN OF THESE TYPE OF HANDLES-BUT IT'S A CHOPPING FOOL OF A KNIFE

MY OVERALL FAVORITE WAS THE COLD STEEL WITH G-10 GRIPS-NO HAND STING AFTER 30 CHOPS.

JUSTIN NAILED THE ERGONOMICS ON THIS ONE ...

I'M GOING TO SEND THE RD-9 OFF TO GET A CONVEX EDGE ON IT--AND RE-TEST THEM ALL

WHICH ONE WOULD YOU CHOOSE TO TAKE WITH YOU ON YOUR NEXT TRIP???

Great pics bro !
Looks like you've had some fun :D
I would probably choose the khukri as I've wanted to try one for a long time... :)

I would chose the RD9 because I already have one, know it and love it! Thanks for the post though. Do you feel the trailmaster is as robust a chopper given the tang they have in them?

I'm a big fan of scrapyard, now having my 2nd knife on order from them. However, I appreciate the honesty of your review. I'm a bit surprised on your comments on comfort. I don't have a dogfather, but I found the resp. C handles of my SOD to be really comfortable especially during chopping. I tend to echo that in chopping chores, the fully wrapped handles produce less shock on the hands than full tangs do.

Thanks for posting your comments.

Looks like fun.

The Kukri looks like either a 15 inch Ang Khola or a BAS (British army service)

My choice would be the kukri. But then I have used them extensively.

Who did you have rehandle the Trailmaster I have one but don't care much for the kraton grips.

I'd go for the Becker BK-9, one of my favorite all around knives. Slide back on the handle, and it's a great chopper.

Hey Bill...who rehandled your Cold Steel Trailmaster? That handle does wonders for it!

I think he mentioned Justin from Ranger knives.

Yes -Justin of Ranger Knives did it-as well as trimmed off the upper guard

The Handle on the Trailmaster just fits my hand so well--- I do not think I could snap the tang even if I wanted to.

Of the knives tested--it would be the best "fighter"-along with the becker.

I was the most accurate with the Ranger-but it's heavy .275 thick--more like a short sword.

What i'm going to do next time--is test 2 knives for 10 minutes and pick the winner--

then test 2 other knives--pick the winner

then test the winning knives against each other

and as always--what I like you might not--but I have always been open minded enough to accept what the target shows and allow that to override what I "think" the best chopper will be before I start to test.

And the Dogfather was not as comfortable I think becasue compared to the g-10 handles-it does not allow for your hand to rotate at all.However-my wife likes that handle better than all the others as it's the smallest.

Great little review buddy, I think I'd have to go for Trailmaster, simple design, clean lines and looks awesome with the new G10 Grips !

I would like to try the Ranger. I've always liked the idea of s-7 in a chopper.
How big is Zeus getting BTW?

Thanks for sharing with us

I'd choose the BK 9, simply because I want one for some odd reason :)
