Some comp finish sarsquatch opinions.

It is the work of Nate (norcalblacktail). He has great communication and a fast turnaround. He works with you to make sure it's exactly what you want. It's now the sharpest knife I own. a

Yeah, i've had work done by nate before, he's great to deal with and does awesome work. I'm on a DIY kick though.

Have you ever tried a SS wire wheel on a bench grinder 230?

It may be worth a try with this one before you start sanding. A very helpful member here suggested it one time and it did not seem to spark much interest. I didn't even believe him myself. Then I realized the wire brush I had was not SS. I was at work one day and I had to shape a tool on a bench grinder and I went over everything with a SS wire brush. It gave an even an almost instant finish that looked between DC and Ban's Frosty finish.

You may want to give it a try for this one if you have not before.

Man that's a Sweet looking Sarsquatch, you really did a nice job with the finishing.

Best edge out of the Busse Compound... period.
I got lucky I guess... the decarb on the two I got wasn't bad at all.

Great all around blade.

Ya'll are making me want a sarsquatch more and more... arg!

I know some of them made appearances at recent shows, too - I could have snagged one at factory price.

Takes pretty nice sized bites when chopping too... gotta love the comp edge.

Love the Sarsquatch CE. Sharpest factory Busse ever. I liked the convex edge so well, I stripped my CG and ground it like the CE. Then I put a clip point on it.

I had to sand my CE a little after it rusted. Now it's easier to care for.

HD, I'LL TAKE IT!!! Either one,

 to JT for doing the right thing.

Factory edge is great.

Decarb is ugly, but you can deal with it, as noted above.

Horn Dog's beautiful clip point inspired me to pick up a cheap user SARSquatch so I could steal his idea and do my own ghetto hack. :D

Any pics of your mod? I'm def going to sand/grind it a bit to get the decarb.

I'm still learning about the way the Busse companies work, how do you get a competition version of a knife? I believe I saw a hellrazor in one of the above pics and remember when the production run was happening, but I never saw an option for a comp model or variant.

thanks for the help and info

Jack, the competition wasn't a finish offered standard on Busses, I believe it was a limited run offering. The blades all had sick convex edges on them, but were very roughly finished, with decarburization still on the blade left over from heat treat where it would normally be ground off. They are born users, and I believe originally were offered at a discount compared to both coated and satin blades. I'd LOVE to see more blades offered in this condition.

+1 on that,

I think that competition finish should be offered on all models, at a slightly lover price. That way Jerry will save money and we will get the users we need. I mean just think competition finish steel heart or competition finish battle mistress. That would be pure awesome.

No doubt! What a great, great blade. Look like such awesome users...

Me want!

How bad is the decarb? Rust while looking at it? I will probably end up grinding it off. How was the stock edge?

Mine didn't rust while looking at it, but it did rust as soon as I stopped looking at it. Sort of like a watched pot. Fortunately, that didn't affect the edge, which was plenty sharp.
