No matter your stance on this subject, I’d like to think this is going to be a 50/50 horse race.

Feel free to explain why some of your knives are setup for whichever carry you decided on. Personally..none of my knives are setup for tip down, as I find it just adds another step to deployment.

So I guess if you carry a Military your a Neanderthal. Not very nice.

I think your post actually shows tip up as the superior method.

In your tip up picture, your hand is in the natural position, parallel to the wrist. The tip-down requires flexing the wrist as an extra step.

Basically, carrying tip-down either requires you to draw and rotate the knife in your hand, or walk around with your wrist bent upwards.

Tip up: Move hand to position -> remove knife -> open

Tip down: Move hand to position -> flex wrist -> remove knife -> open

Or

Tip down: Move hand to position -> remove knife -> rotate knife to rest in palm -> open

The extra step is usually done in parallel, which means for most people it will not make an actual difference in opening speed, but your body might use a few extra Joules to send that command to bend the wrist.

My hand is just awkwardly cocked in each photo so I could show in the photo what I was doing more easily on camera. No awkward wristing is actually required.

And your arm bending makes it so no wrist flexing is necessary.

Can't really vote... I prefer a belt sheath... but when in pocket:

Standard cut jeans with tighter, more horizontal opening pockets tip down. Baggy pants with slanted or vertical pockets tip up... I hate carrying in my front pocket either way.

Rear pocket, tip up.

No points against you or anything but I’m going to say you may be in a more “relaxed” environment? I’ve often wondered about doing the same type of carry. I’m only about 2 years into the hobby and I’ve yet to try this style. Hopefully something speaks to me soon as I haven’t bought a knife in about 5 weeks!

Yep. No way I can carry a knife clipped to my pocket at where I work. Has to be hidden in my pocket.

These threads come up regularly. I think the last one had about 75% preferring tip up.

I carry tip down where possible because I carry blades from 3.5" to 4" and with my hand size and tight jeans, tip down is much faster to deploy for me for this size knife. When I carried 3" or smaller knives the speed was the same either way.

I have never had a problem with knives opening in my pocket so I don't worry about that. I don't use waves or lanyards. If I'm carrying a knife with clip and one-handed operation for convenience, I'm going to maximize the convenience by going tip down. BUT there are a lot of nice knives on the market and some of the ones that I can't resist are tip up only. So I carry and use knives both ways. In my current weekday + weekend rotation there are 14 total knives- 8 are tip down and 6 are tip up.

Being left handed, I really don't care how the tip is positioned as long as it's against the outer seam of either pocket. Carrying a right handed knife in the left pocket for me has to be tip down.

Now is this solely because that knife only came with tip down configuration and you’ve just adapted to learning a motion? Or was it a case of; It was one of your first couple of knives and you didn’t even pay attention so “tip down” seemed “normal”?

It's the old CRKT Prowler and it only comes tip down. One of the two or three AUS 6 knives that I own. I like this knife so much that I own two! I am a glutton for punishment, I know. Because of the blade shape, it almost acts like an Emerson CQC7 if you pull it out of your pocket tip up. It is also what keeps me from buying an Emerson. Well, that and the blade geometry Emerson insist on using.

I am going off topic but what is the hang up for people with the term "deploy"?
It's not wrong, per se, but sounds a bit mall-ninja/tactical. :p

When you say it sounds mall-ninja that makes sense I just have the habit of using the last term I read in the thread myself and don't often think too much of it.

I carry them the way they are provided by the manufacturer and I don't change them. I really don't care one way or the other. The only thing I might do is take the clip off entirely.

Which knife(s) have you taken the clips off entirely?

As stated before, it sounds way too mallninja-ish/tactical-douchey. When I first heard nutnfancy talk about how he likes knives with thumbstuds because that's how he trains to deploy his knives quickly in tactical situations, I lost it. Seriously...? He "trains" on how he opens his knives...? So yes, talking about how you "deploy" your knife sounds comical.

Insulting or rude behavior
Yes , if your are a Troll spending your life being stupid on the net,

I can understand your ignorance . Being a full-time Troll , you've probably never felt the need to deploy anything but stupidity .
