While we were crabbing today there were two rival pairs of eagles in nearby trees. At one point they engaged in some aeriel combat, locking talons and whirling down till they both finished up in the sea ! My camera is only really a point and shoot so not ideal for this type of photography but I did manage to snap a few pics for ya !

Cool stuff to watch !!!

When an eagle inadvertently flies to close or through an occupied territory, the resident adults with give chase, and in extreme cases, engage in aerial tumbling and even talon-locking. This latter behavior can (and has) be fatal to one or both eagles. Adults on territory are often particularly aggressive towards immatures that wander into their area, which is why you can find gatherings of immature birds in "safe zones" sometimes, where no breeders are present and thus not a threat to them.

That is cool. Second favorite bird, and good pics to go with it! Thanks for sharing

"Cool to watch"

Wow, bro - that's the understatement of the year :)

AWESOME photos!

Beautiful. I remember watching two Bald Eagles just like that taking turns fishing about 5 years ago on a trip to Alaska.

That photo of them in the water is special, though. Thanks for that. It made my night.:cool:

Great photo taking by the way. Nice job!

The locking of talons and cartwheeling towards the ground is almost always part of the bald eagle mating ritual. They do it when protecting territory as well but more rarely.

Great pics!

I've seen that behavior in hawks when they were mating. Ive seen them actually hit the ground.--KV
