Me and Tina have been together 8 years now, we met moved in together shortly after, 4 years later had a kid, and bought a house. I always refer to her as my wife, as she refers to me as her husband, but we never officially tied the knot. It was due to both of us being in school, it would have screwed us financially with grants, tax situations etc...We always said we were gonna wait till she was done with school.

Well, shes done, I asked her last Sunday, put a big ol' ring on her finger and we got married on thursday! :D

We are gonna still have a wedding etc in October, but we decided we waited 4 years, and were tired of waiting. :p

Anyways, I just wanted to share some exiting news....Nothing really changed but her name, but its still cool.

Thanks guys.....I appriciate it.

Now I need to decide what steel to pack at our wedding. ;)

Congratulations J. It sounds like the way you did things is the real way to make a commitment. A little advice, make your wedding small and a celebration about the two of you rather than a celebration to meet the expectations of your family members. Often times, weddings can be a huge money hole for what amounts to be a big party and an excuse for a family get together.

It sounds like the two of you are beyond that and you can have more fun and cherish your special day on your own terms. You can have all the fun without it being a huge affair. You will also probably remember your special day more fondly rather than trying to live up to some societal pre-fab expectation that is never realized.

My wife and I eloped and having attended dozens of weddings from family members, I think out decision was the best one. After we came back from out marriage, we had just our parents and a couple of cousins out to my dad's place. Had a great BBQ and really just enjoyed each others company. What was great was that we actually had a great deal of attention put on us and it was nice to just talk to everybody without having third cousin Larry drunkingly snatching half drank wine bottles off of everybodies tables.

Of course, other people lke that kind of thing. I wish you the best in your life-long commitment!

Thanks Ken, we totally have that in mind. We have a rather small list of guests for the actual ceremony. Were having it at a local apple orchard that is gorgeous in the fall.

The big guest list is the party afterwards. ;)

Im really glad we did it like we did. You really get to know someone living with em, and being with em for 8 years. We have friends whose marrages didnt last that long. Shes perfect in every way to me.

Congrats Jake! My wife and I lived together for 5 years before getting married. We've been married for 10 years now.
