I'm a little behind in getting these posted due to some computer difficulties, but better late than never! These are a few of the Happy Holidays knives Schrade put out, mostly fron the nineties, to help raise funds for Christmas lights in Ellenville. Not sure exactly when they started, but I think it was in 1993. Local Ellenville and surrounding landmarks were the theme, and the scrim work by Mr. G. was outstanding as usual. As with the 4th of July knives, these were generally available only to the local collectors. The unmarked pic on the 1996 is an image of the Wayside Inn, a very old inn dating back to the 1800's, and originally known as the Terwilliger House. All the knives were boxed in the usual blue and white Scrimshaw boxes, with the exception of the LB, which came in the white box and sleave with sheath. Enjoy!

Thanks Larry and Russell! It says: "Town of Wawarsing American Revolution Bicentennial Celebration 1976". I'm going to have to find out what all those symbols represent.

Starting in the upper left and working clockwise:
Pick & Shovel - reference to mining in the local area. Nothing spectacular but bluestone, lead, limestone, salt, and legend has it gold mines were operated in the town. Also one of the first roads up the valley into the region became known as the "Old Mine Road"

Basket - It is a blueberry (huckleberry) pickers basket. Use to be a large seasonal operation

Arrowhead - honoring the local indians (Lenape) who were here before, as well as several small skirmishes between the natives and settlers.

Jug & axe - I've found two references for this one so far. If I get anything definitive I'll let you know. 1) Two of the larger industries that grew up in the Ellenville area where the cutlery factories and glassworks/potteries.
2) Another industry that was foremost for a relatively short period of time was the tanneries. This symbol contains elements of that as well.

This is based on my own knowledge and preliminary research. As stated, I'll update after digging through the archives here at the library.

Eyegor, thanks for the info! I was just downtown last weekend checking out the layout of the old schoolhouse in Napanoch. We're looking to set up a knife museum of the local cutleries there, still in the preliminary stages but I'll keep everyone informed as things progress. Here's some info on that gold mine, c. 1903:

And a shot of some of the "cutlery" (foreground), produced at the Napanoch Axe Factory. Thanks for the enlightenment, I've known of these places but hadn't made the connection, must be this cabin fever:
