I don't think this was posted, but what are the weather conditions? Wet/Dry/Cold/Cool/Hot/etc?
A cho-liner makes a good, light, warm-cool weather bag. Attach the poncho and it's water resistant.
Use a sil-tarp instead of a full blown tent, or just the foot print and rain fly.
Replace the foot print with Tyvek cut to the appropriate size.
List what pack you're humping and its contents. We'll be able to directly identify weight-loss items.
The light hiking rules of thumb are only take what you need, and try to take items with multiple uses to accomplish your needs.
