Some ideas for modding my ESEE-6 to make it Firesteel-compatible?

Hi all,
I have an ESEE-6 and was pretty sad to find out that its spine was not conducive to pulling some sparks out of Firesteel. I'm a total knife noob and was wondering if any of you have ideas for modifications I could make that would let me make it work?

A few requirements, of course:
1. Definitely do not want to use the cutting edge
2. I'd consider putting a sharp right-angle edge on the spine like on the back of my Fallkniven S1, but even the S1's VG-10 steel showed some wear after a couple of test strikes... I don't want to do that to either knife right now. There's also some jimping on the ESEE-6. (I'm making the completely unfounded assumption that VG-10 is stronger than the ESEE-6's steel.) Feel free to rebuke this req, though
3. I've stripped the paint coat off my knife, in case it means anything

What's immediately apparent to me, I don't see many choices... but I'm sure there's a wealth of wisdom and experience here that could lead me somewhere :)

Thanks!

Yep, pretty much only solution I see is your #2. S1 showing some wear??? Strange, as a firesteel is significantly softer than hardened steel. Is the S1 one of the laminated fallkniven? Might be the exterior layers are not as hard as the core/cutting edge? Pretty confident/almost certain ESEE 1095 is through-hardened, so a square-angled spine would trown awesome sparks!

It is laminated. That's a very good possibility.
I'll sacrifice some of the jimping and square it off, then. Thanks! Actually... instead of a square I'll make a triangle with the right-angle edge at the center of the spine so that I can hold the blade perpendicular to the firesteel and still get the correct strike angle. Seems safer. Thanks!

I bought my ESEE-3MIL with the sharpened clip point specifically for use with a firesteel. In your case, stripping some of the coating off of the spine should do the trick.

If the spine of the knife has a 90 degree angle on it, use that. If not, you can use the bottom of the knife (if you are comfortable with the precarious blade positioning). You could also use a thin sharpening stone to grind out an indent in the spine towards the bottom of the blade for a 90 degree angle to use.
