Hello "Uncle Bill", I'm from The Netherlands and have been interested from childhood on in knives and still have some awfull 14" Kukri with a chromeplated blade that has the chrome falling off, that I bought 30 years ago when I was a 12 year old boy.
I have a Cold Steel Kukri Ltc for about 4 years now and it has chopped many things and I still like it. But I've been admiring the many pictures that you have put on the board and also on your website but have not yet taken the step to get one of your Kukri's sent over to the Netherlands.
Last Saturday I saw a nice about 18" Kukri in a gunshop lying with some dust in a far corner of the shop that you could perhaps comment on. It has a "satin" polished steel blade with a nice edge and the trident shaped cutout near the grip. The blade is a full tang as the grip consists of 2 wooden slabs rivited through the tang, the rivets being rather large. The grip looks a lot like the Chainpuri grip in one of your posts, with this I mean it flares out to a big diameter. There is a leather covered wooden sheath with it, the whole piece is bigger that the Cold Steel Kukri LTC I have, it has a very natural form, I can't explain it better, the lines and proportions are just right.
It doesn't look like the tourist piece I aquired 30 years ago, but rather like a piece that could be used every day. I don't know what steel is used and haven't tested the hardness with a file or stone yet, it's made of rusting steel.
The asking price is a rather low f 65,- this being only $30. Any tips on how to "see" if it's a decent piece etc.
Best regards, Bagheera
