today i took out some of the knives that i have made and put them through some paces. it was about 20F today, so i felt pretty good.
the cutlery:
(no, i didnt make the axe) the little knife is about 5'' overall with a 2'' blade, and the larger knife is about 7'' long with about a 2.5'' blade. oak handles on both and recycled saw steell for the blades.
first off, i got a fire going. just a ferro rod today, as i didnt feel like breaking out the bowdrill. the little knife was used to fuzz up some fat wood, and the squared portion of the spine was used to strike the fire steel.
made some more fuzzs sticks to get the fire going:
the really thin blades made for some really nice fuzzies.
then some more general tasks:
then when i was cutting some wood, i wondered how the little knife would stand up to minor batoning:
obviously, i would never really need or expect a knife this size to do this under normal circumstances, but i was impressed with it.
a few more arbitrary pics:
Enjoy!
