In another thread begun by a long time forumite one comment was to get back to knife talk. There was a desire to see some of the old time makers work. Also we need not forget newer makers

Well, talk or show it will be ok. Lets show each other what knives we added to our collection in 2011. Here are a dozen added some from makers and some from other collectors.

The year started with the CKG show and these items were added which would satisfy both those interested in the old timers and the newer makers

1. Kangaroo Hunter by Larry Hendricks with engraving by Lynton MacKenzie -- both deceased but of utmost high quality of workmanship

orig.jpg

2. Hunter with Ivory Scales by Charlie Weiss with scrim by Bob Egnath (deceased) and engraved by Gilbert Rudolph

orig.jpg

3. Art knife folder (lockback) by very new maker as this is knife #14 -- Elizabeth Loerchner and engraved by Brian Hochstradt. Gold and BLP

orig.jpg

4. Fighter obtained from my good friend Roger Pinnock by Tad Lynch which was obtained originally at the 2010 Blade show as I recall and won Best New Maker Award

standard.jpg

5. The next three are all from different makers but are produced and offered at the Blade 2011 show.

A Chute knife added to a number of other chutes from the past and to another one from Blade by Charles Vestal

orig.jpg

6. Another Chute this time by James Sponaugle

orig.jpg

7. and my first purchase at Blade which once handled just could not be put down by Mike Ruth Jr. -- Damascus Fighter with Mammoth handle and fits perfectly with some other knives obtained in the past with similar handles and damascus blade. Same concept at the "Three Amigos" of another post.

8. The next three are by the same maker -- John Cohea and are part of a display of his old time style of knives which I found very interesting and make a great display and my oldest son quickly put dibs on them.

The battle axe

9. The Fighting Bowie

10. The traditional hunter to fill out the set.

the next two will have to come on the next part due to the limitations of the # of images allowed at one time

11. From the Grandson of one of the old time original knifemakers, Rudy Ruana -- Fighter/Bowie by David Ruana

orig.jpg

12. and the last created by another fairly new knifemaker and second Canadian added to the collection in 2011 -- Sword by Stuart Branson

others that have new knives with images from 2011 hopefully will enjoy this thread and add to it.

You've had a heck of a year Murray! It's been a very good one for me, too.

Cool that we picked up successive Japanese-inspired pieces from Stuart Branson:

A couple of terrific hard-working camp knives were added, both from friends of mine:

And Andrews:

Both have been put to work and both makers should be proud of how they perform.

I hope others will add some of their 2011 scores - I'd love to see them.

A worthy thread. I didn't remember I had acquired so many new knives, but once I looked, they sprang in from 2011.

I'll let the knives talk:

Have a bit of a theme going on here. Take a guess.... ;)

I have a dress tactical in this genre, on order from a maker who's known by his first initials.

Are you smarter than a fifth grader?

Coop

Matt Gregory made one of these, Joel Purkeson made the other, (the Knight is old stock:))

WoW!! Coop has to more HP knives and they are terrific. I really like the Frank Fisher folder. That is the way a pocket clip should be done and the blade is wonderful. Lorien, the Branson piece really is kewl. He is so versatile. Your EDC is very nice. I'm sure it gets lots of use. Keep them coming guys as it is fun to view all the new items both from old and new makers.

2011 was my best year yet in terms of collecting.
Two from Boguszewski, a Hoel engraved by C.J. Cai, a Busfield engraved by Joe Mason, and last but not least a Ron Lake large Orion from the AKI. Happy Holidays.

Getting a Lake is primo for sure. I do love the Steve Hoel. Always been a fan of his. nice material, shape and engraving. thanks for posting those.

Joe -- it kewl to see the Wheeler and Knight so similar. Great handle material on the Knight. Things look really good for folks in 2011. Lets hope 2012 matches it. Peronally though I think I have about run out of room. My old friend, Ron Lockhart told me how much he enjoyed looking at the 195 knives in the collection. Have to cut back somewhere I guess.

We'll be seeing more of those NW and JK pieces on the BB thread. SO kewl.

Martin: I'm loving that top Boguszewski. Man, that's got a bit of euro look to it. And the ivory...? Kissing my fingers, sweeeet. :)

Coop

Jim, there is a story behind that Boguszewski. I had always dreamed of a Jess Horn inspired New York Special flipper made by Phil B. I asked my friend Tashi if he could draw something I could show Phil at the last Tactical Invitational. He did the drawing and to my surprise Phil said "You want me to make you one of those"? To make a long story short ten knives will be made, my dress version is the prototype. Here is the drawing, a certificate of authenticity for #3, and another picture.

stop pin is attached to, and moves with the blade- how cool is that?!

Though i check here often, i do not post as much.. On my wish list is to see more knives of my favorite knife maker, an artist who's knives encapsulate the ideals of a truly handmade knife, to me. Such individual creativity to each piece.

In my memory i recall the years i have visited his table at Blade. Always a treasure trove of shapes and forms, made into some of the best knives around. I feel like it is Christmas morning just seeing his new knives. What a joy! Small, large, the twists and natural contours- all made by mother nature. Some of his knives have a handle that feels like you are shaking hands with an old friend. It couldnt be more perfect. All of them, interesting to behold.

Sadly, his output of knives has not been as much lately.. Yet i cannot let the opportunity pass without acknowledging him, and the inspiration he is to me. What a gifted artist and visionary he has been these many years. Though, he has never followed the crowd, or aimed to be the most popular, at times been criticised and even ridiculed. He is man of integrity and honor. In knives, he is dogged. He wont make just anything the customer wants.. As stubborn as a mule, some might insist. To his credit, it is only what is in his heart to make. Which is the best knife possible, in the service of man.
I miss seeing his work here. I thought i would just mention it. Merry Christmas, if you are reading Ed Fowler. My friend! :)

Some stunning new additions there Coop. The white handle collection is growing bigger and better.

Roger

Martin,

Your project is WAYY cool. I love this design, and that you helped inspire it, so much the better. Congrats!

Lorien: That's some of the appeal of Phil B's work. You have to check it out closely. The pin is retracted in the liners, but it's there to watch.

David: An honorable post.

Roger: Thanks. Yes, it is.

Coop

Some of my 2011 acquisitions are out for photography right now, and I will add them to the thread when I get back the photos.

But until then, here are pictures of some of the others . . .

nice to see the Sfreddos. Good you could find them from another collector. Nice Cowboy Bowie by Ed C who always creates nice knives. He among others I rather miss when attending the MKA shows the last few times.
