I collect inexpensive knives. I try to be selective in what I buy. Quality for the cost is what I base my purchases on. I just got these Gil Hibben knives in today. I have been debating for awhile whether to get into them or not. The looks of them just kind of melted my butter. Since receiving them, I am glad I did. I feel that I got my moneys worth. Around 38.00 each shipped. That is high dollar stuff for me. LOL I sold off some other stuff to get them. Robbing Peter to pay Paul again. LOL. That is part of the fun in this crazy hobby. Pretty dang nice knives for the bucks spent. They won't really be users, just added to the collection but they could be if the need ever arises. I am a happy old collector today. The wifey, not so much. LOL. Have a Blessed New Year knife addicts. Mike in Missouri

Relatively nice to look at. Might even see using the bottom two, top one I wouldn't be able to. But I think Hibben makes mostly knives to look at, anyway. At least these days. Enjoy.

Yep, the top one is not usually my style of knife but I figured it would make a good pig sticker with that double edged point. And yes, I know a standard style dagger would do the same trick, but just not as wide as the Hibben on initial thrust. Not many pigs around here though. I am pretty sure they will do a bit more than just something to look at if need be.

The bottom two are certainly nice looking, but not the top one.
To me knives just to look at should cost well under 20$, but these do seem like they might be OK users.

I guess I could see using the top one in some kind of self-defense scenario as a knife I kept somewhere in the house, if I did that sort of thing. Wouldn't bother me to lose or break it or whatever and it probably cuts flesh just fine.

Self defense with something like that, to me, conjures the mental image of stabbing an assailant, then applying significant lateral pressure in an effort to snap the rat tail tang off, leaving the blade firmly lodged in the threat where they can't dig it out.

Hopefully if it ever gets that bad, I will have my 1911. Heaven forbid. I am way to old for knife fights.

I suppose you're right, I really couldn't say. I'd probably stab repeatedly until I was sure the threat was eliminated, if that is all I had.

I don't think I'm as old as Gunner, but I'm in no shape to use a knife in an SD situation. You need balance for that and some decent footwork, and I have neither.
