This has quickly become my favorite wood, very nice to look at and it is just much more dense then any other Walnut ive ever used. Its about as hard as "best grade" Curly Maple (not the soft stuff).

Any how, this is a Bowie I just finished up, 14-1/2" overall, 9-1/2" x 1-7/8" blade, 3/8" thick at ricasso with alot of distal taper.

In these pics the handle still needs several coats of Danish Oil, eventually it will take a smoother/deeper look. So thanks Don (and your brother).

Nice!!!!! I still haven't tried out my "London best" stock finishing kit with the pore filler and all that, but I hope to do that for Blade on a piece of Don's walnut. I had a fighter in that wood in Belgium and it sold in the first 15 minutes of the show.

Matt another great knife.. I have used linseed oil and rotten stone and a felt pad and got good results on gun stocks. Takes time but eventually the poors fill

You should check out the finishing kit. I got it from Brownells. It is made in South Africa, but I think it is basically the same process that the London guys use. A couple of years ago, I saw a kit that was supposed to be an exact copy of the Purdey ingredients, but I can't remember where I saw it. The kit I have says that you only have to use the pore filler once toward the end of the process, but that is little consolation considering how many coats of the finishing oil you have to do before that and how long you have to let them dry in between coats!!! While something as small as a knife handle probably won't require the entire two weeks that a rifle or shotgun stock takes, it still isn't going to be done overnight.

Edit. The Purdey "Warthog" kit is available from Jeff's Outfitters. The only difference I see is that the pore filler is in a powder form in the Purdey kit.

Bladeandbarrel, im looking forward to using that piece of Walnut that you sent. Hopefully next week I will get to it! It has some amazing potential as well... we will see.

Joe M, be sure and post results of the finishing kit, would love to see.

Joe P, ive never used the rottenstone/felt pad but have seen results in the form of rifle stocks and its quite amazing.

damn, your knives are just getting better and better.
I totally dig mine still, by the way. It's a real workhorse. Lays waste to the forests of Vancouver Island.

The wood looks great, and so does the rest of the knife!
