Some more of Hansons Black Walnut.

Matt I start out with linseed oil thinned with mineral spirits and 320 grit wet dry paper . I wet sand the wood and leave a light coat of the slurry .. Wet sanding is a slow sticky mess but after about 3 goes the pores are filled then I do 3 more coats of the same mixture but rub it in with my hand and build up heat. If I am looking for a satin finish I am done if I want a london finish then I do the felt pad rottenstone thing really dullls down the finish but rich looking to say the least.

Joe M it did take me 2 weeks or so to redue one of my double rifles after it was fitted. But there are no pores and I was very pleased with the way it came out.

I got this stock or wood finishing technique from Steven Hughes who is known for his fine gunmaking and work on real high end double shotguns.
