Some new Blades

Actually I've had these for quite a bit now. Been busy at work and not having a working camera (long story) has not given any free time to take pics. Here are a few rough shots.

Both of these are great blades, however I do prefer the original SBT over the TOPS. This is not to say that the TOPS is no good, just my preference.

Note that the TOPS version is a bit longer

Snap shot of both blades. TOPS on "top" no pun intended

The TOPS version is thicker which I kind of like, but the thin stock on the original makes it a mean slicer.

I also prefer the sheath on the original, the entire handle is accessible. I really do not like the metal belt clip on the TOPS version. But I can always have a new sheath made.

Both knives are winners so far. I will follow up with an short and very unscientific testing report for those that are curious.

As a side note, I was able to speak with Swiss Bianco, very nice guy with some great designs.

Enjoy

Very nice blades. I didn't know TOPS made a blade like that and I've never heard of SBT. Interesting.

I was looking at those. They are nice.

Thanks for posting pics. I'd love to hear how they perform.

It that clip removable?

From what I can tell, yes. In the sheath pic you can a small plactic cap in the center of the metal clip. It looksas if you can remove the cap then use a screwdriver to remove the hardware. I am not sure if the holes on the TOPS sheath would receive a Tek-Lok belt clip, I will have to try that later.

I know you implied that the non-TOPS version is the best slicer but how does the TOPS one perform at slicing etc, is it still ok ?

i don't like that the tops version has two choils. it would make more sense to move the edge closer to the handle for more control imo.

The tops SBT is a good slicer too, its just that in my experience any knife that is above 1/8" in thickness tends to bind in the material. Don't get me wrong I really like both but prefer the original.

I also do not like the two choils. I like it very much when the cutting edge makes it all the way to the ricasso.

I cut huge sheets of corrugated daily, and choils, even small ones tend to get caught when making long downward strokes. Sure I can use a box cutter, but where would be the cool factor :D

They're both very nice. I like the original.

That looks real nice! I find it odd that such a seemingly talented knifemaker has gone under my radar for so long:confused:;)

Thanks for the little review:thumbup:

Could the thread starter give us some background on this knife? I dont know anything about it either, why are two companies manufacturing it?

Don't too much on the history, although that it is Swiss Bianco design. The first time I saw this knife was in a Tactical Knives magizine. There was a review on both the SBT and the Neck Angel. I tried to find one of the originals, but no luck. While browsing the internet I found that TOPS was manufacturing a version of the SBT. You can also find the original design here:

I'll try and post a few more pics later, and give a small review.

Very cool. i still want to get one of those, but will most likely have to settle for the TOPS version.
