Is that a thumb stud for one-handed opening on the primary blade? I was under the impression that non-automatic one-handed opening folders were a much more recent development. If that is a thumb stud this must have been ahead of its time

AFAIK the stud was meant to allow opening the knife while wearing thick winter gloves.
