Some Of The Best Quality Machetes ???

Hah--if you think the ESEE screams through vegetation you should try an Imacasa "guarizama"! :D

Boy, do those things ever cruise through vegetation! Not good on woody targets much thicker than an inch, but almost impossible to beat for anything thinner/lighter and you can swing 'em alllllllllll day no problem.

FortyTwoBlades,
Thanks so much for your comments. They are helpful and will aid in making a decision.

Checked out your website and I like it. With all of your experience with machetes I would ask this question.
If you could only grab one to take at the last minute, and you and your families life depended on your choice, which one would you take???
Sorry to put you on the spot, but you likely have tried them all.
Thanks, and sorry if I'm a pain.

I'm far from a machete expert but needed a blade to clear shooting lanes and build brush blinds. I chose the 12" Tramontina bush machete, as it will fit in my pack and looked good for light work. Anyway, I made a video. Nothing great for sure but will show you the machete. Since then, I've used the heck out of it. Today, I cleared 5 more shooting lanes and built another brush blind. The machete still slices paper (I sharpened it since the video) and did the job perfectly. I found it easy to use in the heavy cover I hunt in. So, if you're interested in a shorter blade for the type of thing I do, try one out. I paid $5.15 for it and even more for the sheath. You have to sharpen them, and they take and hold an edge.

Condor, Imacasa, Ontario.

Why spend $100+ on a machete. The people who rely on theirs daily don't. They would laugh if you told them their machete was over $20.

You might try the Marble's blades too. They're dirt cheap and seem to hold up well for what I use them for.

Here are a few Fiddleback 16"
I did a little customizing on one to suit my needs
Sorry for the picture quality, they were quick pics from my phone

My plastic handled, 22 inch Tramontina gets used the most by me, and lays waste to foliage and brush, better than any other machete I've owned. Very cheap too. For the heavier/denser stuff you can't go wrong with a Condor Golok IMO. Those things chop all out of proportion to their size. As a rule of thumb, as others have stated, if the country of origin is a country where dense jungles reside, it's good to go. I never cared for the heavier stock Ontarios in 1095, but that's just personal preference, I'm gonna give them another shot though.

Yo All,
I'm sure there are some machete (chopper?) collectors out there that would
be willing to give their opinion. Maybe not many machete only collectors,
but if you have a favorite I sure would like to hear about it.

Hey, First of all, there is a big difference between a machete and a 'chopper' in my opinion. A machete is very thin and light while a 'native chopper' like a kukri or bolo is pretty thick and hefty. I know a lot of brands mix them up and come out with a very thin 'kukri machete' or something, but I personally prefer the thicker native 'choppers', especially the Philippine bolo. Further it depends on how much you like to spend and what you think is important. Personally it annoys me that most large fixed blades come with incredible crappy sheaths. In case of a nice sheath the Cold Steel Gurkha Kukri has by far the nicest one. What I don't like about the Cold Steel Gurkha Kukri though, is that the SK5 carbon steel is completely uncoated. My recommendation is to take a look at the TOPS Power Eagle 12!

Hi Jeru,
Thanks for the info. Re "chopper" that's why I put it in with a question mark. I realize there is a difference, i.e., weight, length, design, but some of us are greedy and want it all.
