Some pack questions to you good folks.

I would love to have a bag with more organized pockets and some molle attachments but cannot justify the price. My jansport bookbag/ backpack (roughly $29) has been going strong for almost 10 years and shows no signs of giving up. Every day I look at it and think this thing is going to bust. I carry way to much stuff but it doesn't seem to matter. The bag only has one large interior, a zippered pocket on the front and a mesh zippered pocket on top of that. Organization can be a problem but otherwise, I'm pretty darn impressed. Although I love O.D green and digital camo, the black bookbag is much more low key.

^ You must be easy on packs? My daughter use to wear hers out every school year = Jansport packs.

I recently picked-up a Maxpedition Falcon II and love it. I have a number of other Maxpedtion bags and pouches - their gear is well designed and well built. For backpacking, I have an Osprey pack, which is great for that purpose, but I only use it for trips of 5+ days. I've had a number of MEC packs/bags over the years and they are a great value. Have you checked-out the threads on the upcoming RAT back pack? It sounds like you'll be heading to Iraq before these packs are available for purchase. All the best.

I have a Jansport pack that is 10+ years old but it has seen limited duty in the last few years. Didn't trust it to hold up to hard use but its good for day to day stuff.

i dont really enjoy those tactical/military packs for my regular hiking and camping outings. i much prefer the normal civilian kind from REI or EMS. although i carry a 3 day assault bags as my EDC in the city, the outdoor bags i get are built usually just as tough and i dont have all the molle straps that i have to try and fill up. because i hate leaving those things empty.

this seems like a good thread to ask...

How does the Camelbak Mil line compare to Maxpedition packs?

Camelbak seems a little cheaper most of the time.
