Some pics of my work

nice work leatherman! i was wondering though, do you just do knife sheaths or do you do pistol holsters or other leather work besides sheaths?

Click on the link and check out his website, the work he has shown here is amazing... but you really need to see his website.
Leatherman is quite modest!

Thanks Necrodamus. :)

jlstas, I will do other work on occasion but sheaths are my specialty. I dont have a lot of gun patterns for holster work just a few actual guns that I have worked holsters for people who happen to have the same gun. I do have a few western style patterns that I'd love to work with sometime. Those old west holsters have a lot of character.

Very nice work, leatherman! I really like the rounded sheaths with the X loop. Nice looking and versatile. Do you make them in finishes other than black?

Next is a work in progress, Its an RC5 with Izula piggyback. I had to extend the sheath by 1/2" to accommodate the Izula sheath. I hope it doesnt look over sized. Opinions greatly encouraged.

I wonder... if the Izula sheath was slightly canted, would it eliminate the need for the extra 1/2 inch on the mother sheath? Would it look crappy? [shrug]

Hey Grump!

Yes, theres other than black sheaths on my site. About every color in the rainbow. :D In fact that mottled sheath is brown and tan.

I tried every way possible to make that Izula fit on the RAT 5 sheath, it just didnt want to go the way we wanted it to. Now if I did a round bottom sheath, yes! It would work. That said, I am going to give it a try, might be a winner. :) And, the customer didnt want the Izula sheath canted, an aesthetics issue. Some look good canted, some dont. It has a lot to do with the base sheath. The longer the primary knife the easier the piggy back.

This thread is great input!!!! I cant thank y'all enough!!! :D

I've been asked, and yes, I have a nice "thank you" scheme in the works. :D ;)

Awesome sheaths Leatherman!

More pics would be great.

Thanks again! I really appreciate the kind words. Here's some more.....

This is what I call the fade, it goes from saddle tan to black at the edges. Has a really nifty effect.

This sheath is called the butterfly, the name comes from what it looks like when its flattened out, a very old pattern.

Dragon carved in the upper half, Shark inlay on the bottom half, this one was a lot of fun. I love carving. :)

I've got lots more, if y'all want to see more. :D

I want to see more of that RC5 / Izula piggyback ;)

(its for me! LOL! I didnt know that till half way through page 2!)

BTW see my post about my problem and resolution!

Marvellous work! You are obviously a very seasoned leather worker.

Could you be persuaded to would post pics of "how" to on a simple sheath for a folder and maybe a fixed blade. With pictures on every step of the way. Explaining even the finer details on what you prefer. Thickness of leather, how long to soak it and how long to sweat it and etc..

I just bought myself the tools needed but I cannot find any decent explaining on the internet (no books available on my island) I found some Polish guy on Youtube who makes beautiful sheaths for folders. He has video taped it and it is the best info I've found so far but not quite good enough, it´s in Polish.

It was the Polish's guy's video that made me think I could do this myself so I went out and bought some tools. And I love the work. It is very satisfying patient work

Hope you're up to it.

Necrodamus, good timing! I just got the back glued on and sanded level. I'll take another "in progress" pic asap. I'll be out of pocket most of tomorrow, but I'll try. :)

lorise, that sounds like a great idea! As soon as I get past this current glut of work I'm buried under I'll start putting together something. Your home town sounds very familar, I took a geology class at Texas Tech University that was taught by a fellow from Iceland. He was a vulcanologist, absolutely obsessed with geophysics. :D

Thanks Shearwater!

COOL! Take you're time I'm at work on day 6 of 13 straight (those are 10-12 hours too)!
I will be here whenever you post it!

BUMP back to page one!
Sorry for the delay, I got busy over the weekend and like a normal Monday it spilled over. :p

The sheath here is glued together and lines marked for the stitching, I have them drilled out now and ready to stitch. Pics when I get to that point. :)
