Got out with the wife today for a gentle hike, here's some pics.

The stick he's fetching in this pic was cut with a silky saw in under 10 seconds. I tested it a lot today and must agree that Silky Saws Rule!

This is a really cool mine, Pine Swamp Mine. Part of the vein was mined above ground, so there's this shaft running up into the hillside. In the last pic you can see light coming in from above. I wanted to explore this so badly but my wife was waiting for me down on the trail. :grumpy: There is a lot of interesting information about the mine and some much better pictures on this website. I'm definitely going to check this out again.

This is Richard and his girlfriend Zoe giving my wife and I the look that says, "why the heck does it take you so long to climb a tiny little mountain"

It is a tiny mountain but the view is still nice

Very nice pics. My dog and She Who Must Be Obeyed give me that look often.

The mine was very cool. That website has some interesting historical information I wish I had known about before visiting it, especially the part about a "shaft of unknown depth"

Ooooops, sorry. My wife is cool with my knife obsession but I still try to be low key about it, at least when she's around ;)

Hehe!

My wife has bought me 3 blades and a SAK Huntsman Plus in the last 2 weeks.

Great pics, I keep looking for those Silky saws but they don't seem to stock them in my area !!!

You're a very lucky man, very lucky. :)

I'm making slow progress though, my wife did recently request a "knife of her own", and looking through various catalogs I have around she wants a Spyderco Street Beat. I was surprised by the choice, but we all know how addictive Spydies can be :D

Wow, I had to close my laptop to keep my lab from seeing that first shot. She would have become extremely jealous! Great pictures. Be careful of that mine if you do go back, there can be a lot of hazards in those things!

I was going to say the same , mines can have hazards like no place you've been before. Why not ring me up so we can both check out the hazards together?! I'm an hour south of NYC over near Sandy Hook NJ. Area looked like Bear Mtn to me.

Abandoned mines do seem rather menacing, even more so to me now after my dog fell through the ice over a shaft this winter and couldn't get out and I had to slide out on my stomach to retrieve him. But I do find them fascinating. If you're into exploring them that would be great. The few friends I've shown them to aren't particularly interested and are mildly afraid. This particular mine is in the NW corner of Harriman not far from "Times Square" and Hogencamp Mountain, one of my favorite areas.
