Iv been looking at the buck 110. my first question is does anybody have one of the auto versions of these and hows the quality? I know buck doesn't do these conversions but I'm just wondering about these knives. secondly is there anybody who makes custom peices for the handles because they don't make them in the wood i want. thanks for any and all information regarding these questions.

I have this one and it's a beautiful piece. It's not something I would carry, it's just part of my collection so I can't tell you how it would hold up with alot of use. I do feel that as forcefully as it opens, I suspect it's going to damage itself with extended use.

Be aware also, that there are fake 110 conversions out there. Be sure that (if you get one), it's a real 110. They were listed as 110's but you couldn't see the tang stamp (or the lack of) in the pictures.

Welcome to the Buck Forum! Theres quite a few people that rescale 110's.
This is a current thread with some for example http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/853196-BUCK-110-Custom-mods:

otherwise there is a gentleman here that goes by Arksknives and he does some fantastic custom work. Or theres Leroy Remer, or.... jarheadz? I think I got that right?
Do a search on here, theres quite a few guys that do great custom scale and filework!

Cool I saw a post of jarheadz where the knife had a pocket clip and a thumb stud. I think I'm going to do that and have someone make some redwood burl handle scales for it to match my fixed blade. Thanks for the info on those guys that do that kinda work. And thanks for the info on the autos. This knife is gonna be a user that I want to keep for awhile so I think I pass on that because of your thoughts on the kick wearing out the knife

I don't know for a fact that slamming open like mine does will damage it but it seems likely. It just seems that such a jolt time after time may cause it to loosen up, but that's just speculation on my part.

Dave, I would agree as they do open with terrific force. The other thing that I have been told is that the spring is also obviously under a great deal of tension when they are closed so, if not a user (being stored), it should be with the blade open.

I'd heard that also, so mine is stored in one of the clamshell jewlery type boxes open.

The automatics open with such explosive force that it's possible that if one were carried in the pocket and went off by accident it could change the voice of the owner or cut a femoral artery.

These should always be double duct taped shut and then carried in a heavy bomb-proof sheath.

Nice! Sounds terrably inconvienent for edc tho haha

Some of them also are both auto and manual. Some have oblong buttons and some have just the button.

This one has an Idaho stamp and is auto only. The genuine Buck 110's are usually pretty pricey.

I bought this fake, knowing that it was a fake, but still paid something like $80 for it.
It serves as my letter opener.

Oh yeah...forgot to talk about the quality.... This one is pure crapola. Blade is looser than the gooser.

The one above is QUALITY!!! Like a 110 is supposed to be.

Yes......that's why you don't see too many of these around. But, safety first, though!!

:D

I figured you don't see too many around because it is illegal in most all places, to carry them.

Really,,,has anyone here ever had an auto deploy in a pocket?? If so, did it do damage?

Just curious...

Not sayin it can't, just curious if anyone has had it happen.

These are curios that non criminals leave at home.

I only have 5. Not too many I guess..

Since I suspect that the vast majority are carried in a belt sheath (the 110 not really being a pocket knife) that accidental opening is a non-issue.

EMc, There is an "auto" related forum here within blade forums. Might post a question in there as to who you might contact for some custom auto work.

Trying to improve on a 110 or a 112 is both silly and sacrilegious.

The very idea makes me shudder.

Can one tweak the leopard to be a better predator?

No good can come of this.

:thumbdn:

Besides, remember what Tin Sue and Plumberdv said about the incredible explosive force of that spring!!

If one of these things pops open in your pocket it could give you an inadvertent hip replacement opening, or a neutering or an strangely sculpted buttock!!
