I have developed an interest in RMK. It's been slowly developng over a couple of years, I think, but has only risen into my consious mind in the last week or two.

I have a oodles of questions. Are the stainless versions of the knives forged or made by stock removal? What grade of stainless is used? What is the most popular of the knives offered now? The least? Do brand new Randall's, once delivered, usually begin to appreciate in value right away if they are kept in mint condition, or does it take a while? How long? I see that there are usually lots of Randall's for sale on eBay. Is there any resource that consolidates the history of the make along with historical and recent selling prices? Where are other good places to purchase them, both online and in person?

I have an irresistable desire to aquire some Randall's. I haven't purchased any yet, but I feel compelled to start my collection by ordering three or four brand new ones in the near future. I have ordered a catalog and I can hardly wait for it to arrive. Which models do you believe will be the best long term investments? What options are most likely to yeild enhanced future value? I will eventually hand my knife collection down to my (currently) five year old son. I view this not as a way to make money, but as a way to start an interest I can share with him and perhaps to start the handing down of what I hope my progeny will one day consider to be heirlooms.

ajrand, go to this site, join the society and the "chat" area will answer most if not all your questions. Also check out the Knifeauctions.

You can go direct to the Randall Knife Catalog at the "links" section at this site.

Rhett has kindly posted all the dealer specials on another thread that you may be interested in looking.

I used to collect and had no trouble selling what I did not use. You can always make your money back and in most cases a profit.

The older knives seem to demand the higher prices.

All the best Sam :)

I have a oodles of questions. Are the stainless versions of the knives forged or made by stock removal? What grade of stainless is used?
Answer: Randall currently is using 440B and 440C stainless, on most knives, except the smaller models, in 3/16 blade stock, which are made of ATS34. Randall forges the 440's. The ATS34 knives are made by stock removal mostly but a few may be forged if the blade needs to be wider.

What is the most popular of the knives offered now?
Answer: Model 1, Model 3, Model 25 and Model 26.

The least? Answer: Model 13

Do brand new Randall's, once delivered, usually begin to appreciate in value right away if they are kept in mint condition, or does it take a while?
Answer: The after market on Randalls is immediate. Expect to pay $100- $200 over Randall list. A lot of the posters here frown on paying over list but it depends on how badly you want the knife. Buying Randalls at list is a sure investment. Buying at higher prices is like playing the stock market. But Randall is a "blue chip".

I see that there are usually lots of Randall's for sale on eBay. Comment: Today, about 100 on eBay and about 50 on www.knifeauctions.net

Is there any resource that consolidates the history of the make along with historical and recent selling prices? I don't think so.

Where are other good places to purchase them, both online and in person? Gun/Knife Shows, Randall dealers and www.knifeauction.net

I list www.knifeauctions.net here twice, oops three times, since I am one of the owners and the fellow that answers the Support questions on that site.

I would also suggest you join the Randall Knife Society at http://www.randallknifesociety.com.

Thanks you guys. I'm going to start out by reading all the threads I can here and at the other knife forum. I'll check out the society web site later today. I suspect that the model 13 will be highly sought after by future collecters because it will be scarce, so I think I'll buy one along with some others after my catalog arrives. I'll post later as more questions arise and when I start my collection. Once again, thank you for your courteous replies. ajrand
