Regarding your third point, have you ever seen an aluminum Civilian? It has a big, paddle-like clip with a Kraton grip surface that roughly approximates that on the non-clip side of the knife. It feels wonderful in the hand, but unfortunately the Kraton surface on the bottom of the clip makes for a really poor draw (somebody said something about sending me a plain clip...) The Pro-Venator has a similar, though less radical, arrangement.
All of the Zytel clips made some effort to incorporate themselves into a handle shape, but we've seen how these broke easily and were supplanted by metal ones. Various custom makers (self included
) have designed variously contoured clips in an attempt to make them more hand-friendly, but IMO this is one of the weakest areas in modern knife design, just waiting for a revolutionary idea or approach.
