Some random action shots (just 'cuz)

Sweet pictorial, Nick... love the design of the last knife in the drawing. The Italian Dinner shirt pics might be a bit much, tho... ;)

Keep up the pictorial! Just as you mentioned, we dig 'em!

Fitz I didn't want to say anything, but he sure looks like he's been eating well since I seen him in Atlanta. Might ought a make room for a tread mill in that shop. :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

Thanks for the comments on the drawings. I have been sketching these silly things ever since I was 14. The biggest difference NOW, is that I can actually make one in steel and wood or ivory that looks like the sketch... lol :)

I'm trying to get the bottom one... an integral, uh.... fighter? sticker? knife like object? done for the Reno show next week. It's totally down to the wire, but I just haven't had much time in the shop lately.

The hammer is my new love. I bought it last March, but really haven't got to forge much of ANYTHING with it until just lately. I know, I KNOW... "How could you not?!?!?!"

I had to put it on hold first because of my Js preparation. Then too much OT in the summer at work. The dies are kind of funky. They're supposed to be the same height. I have the matching one for the bottom, but dont' have time to dick with changing them out and getting it adjusted for those.

I will in time! :)

Just FWIW, I DO have a lot of tools! But I don't know jack about using most of them, lol... AND... I started buying all this stuff when I was 18. And I just turned 24.... Er.... uh.... I mean... gulp, 30. So it didn't all gather up overnight! LOL :)

Another BTW- My shop is all stuffed in a 24X26' "two car" garage. It's way too tight. I am dreaming up a 48'X60' shop... oh, and a way to pay for it! LOL

Glad Her and Dad are understanding, lucky! I just upgraded in September from a 12 by 15 with 7 foot ceilings to a 20 by 20 with 17 foot ceilings! What a difference, no more little paths through the tools, or hitting the ceiling when swinging the hammer:D.

Hehe, my brother's TR6 convertible takes up half my shop space right now (detached 2 car garage) But that was the cost of my borrowing a few grand from him to buy out a fellow's entire blacksmith shop last spring. And until i have him payed off in another month or two, i cant complain about it.

This pic shows a bit of how crowded it is already... and that was taken before I got my treadle hammer or my fly press!

I really need to get 220v power to the garage, but my service is tapped out currently =(

Attractive lady, Nick! Supportive of the knifemaking is a great plus!

And you have to cut me some slack; my first thought was whether you'd gained muscle mass. The donut crack was mandatory 'cuz you're always so danged cute. I bet you look sweet all tanned and oiled up in a competition Speedo. ;)

Nick you da man! Yeah you have a great shop. If you find you don't forge on that LG just send it to me, I'll be more than glad to take it off your hands. BTW what bit you. Your are swollen all over the place! Must have been the same thing that bit me, but the thing only bit me in the stomach. As I recall you are a fitness buff, it shows.

Hey Fitz.... You know I luv ya :D I did eat about 85 donuts last year, so it all works out in the end. ;)

The killer is the cafe food. It is like some amazing compound that makes you fat as soon as you eat it! lol

I'll wait till I'm leaned out to about 210 before I post the oiled up speedo shot for 'ya ;) ROFLMFAO!!!! ;) :D

Now to get back to the shop for some more twisting/forging/welding

Oh yea... Michael, I thought YOU welded that billet for me?!?!?! :p

Shoot Charles, I mean Nick, I ain't afraid of you just cause your pump'in donuts, I mean iron. Darn senior moments .:D:D Now get back to work and show us some knife porn.

Bill

Hey Nick, I like your Little Giant, looks like a 1938 model. Per our power hammer email, (I never heard back from you) after seeing that tall-ass bottom die lol :), I would say that is most of your trouble.

I will soon have another 100 lb LG, why? Cause I like em :D

Hey Don... I did write you back buddy!!! I thought I must have been bug'n you too much cuz I didn't hear back. I KNOW that's not like you, but I tend to overstay my welcome so I let it alone.

I'm glad to hear you're getting another LG! I hope to see pics. How did you come across the new one?

I have the correct bottom die here at the shop, but the one time I put it in everything was totally out of whack. It seemed like it would hit about twice as hard, but I had no control. I am going to get adjustable toggle links from Sid. I also need to line the ram quide with bronze. Once I can sit down and dial it in, I want to try the smaller, proper die.

The ram is a little loose in there, and there's only ONE shim in there.

The wooden base works, but sure isn't what it NEEDS. I know it will hit about twice as hard as it currently does when I get a truckload of concrete under it.

Bill and Fitz... I am SOOOOO EXCITED for the day we're all at the same hammer-in... I'll BUY THE DONUTS!!! :D

Oh, Mike... that's too funny. My dad used to make fun of me when I was 14 and said my little arms looked mosquitos had bit them. Bastard still says that! :D

Guess I need to start eating more donuts!

Those knives look great, as usual, I was wondering how you choose to use either the press or the hammer for an operation?

Typical Hanson. You could put a rusty old 25# Little Giant in a room full of naked Playboy bunnies and Don would say "wow, nice set of drawing dies on that little beauty!"

Nick, your girlfriend's hot. If I hadn't gotten married about 4 hours ago I'd fly out to Washington and try to steal her from you.

Nick, never got your reply, my computer must have eaten it. Sounds like you got it pretty much figured out, a piece of bronze angle in the front of the ram guide will work wonders.

Wulf, lol, a room full of naked women would definitely draw my attention but I would have to stop and take a look at the hammer :D Besides, women are a lot more trouble than power hammers :D
