Here are some really nice ancient walrus ivory tusk sections for hidden tang knives. I have had these for about six months, so the colors should be set and they are half cured. I am happy to answer any questions about the stuff or working with it. It is guaranteed to be legal and naturally colored, happiness is guaranteed, if you find you can't use it when you get it in your hands, return it for your purchase price back, please do that within seven days. I take all the normal forms of payment, Paypal, checks, or credit cards over the phone. The prices shown will be plus shipping and insurance, I ship using USPS flat rate shipping where I can, I ship anywhere it is legal and charge only the actual shipping charges. You may PM me, email me or call me on the phone (though sometimes I have loud machines running and can't hear it).

Cool stuff Mark. How about this for number 30?

480 lbs per year (40 pounds a month)

Reference: Mark Knapp at http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...ale-of-Elephant-Ivory?p=13225097#post13225097

...the recent crushing of under six tons of ivory by the US government...was a 25 year accumulation, (it comes to 40 pounds a month)...

I'm glad you are paying attention Phil, I should give you an honorable mention. But you did not read for enough, a lot of that ivory was legal ivory that was already in the US that people just didn't know what to do with, surrendered willingly to the USF&W Service

So far, I have one very good answer, but I am giving it till tomorrow morning. Looking for more current data.

According to ETIS, between 1998 & 2006, 10,817 Kg of illegal ivory was imported into the USA. That works out to an average of 1201.88 Kg or 2644.15 lbs. per year. If you break it down further it comes to approx. 7.2 lbs. per day.

Okay ban 1989 to 2013 26 years so should be 461 lbs a year or 38.4 a month ( Us Fish and Wildlife Service stats)

Pretty good Darrin, but you were beat.

Makes me sick. I absolutely love Ivory. That's too bad.

Mark
If you can ship to Canada I will take number 33.
Steve

There used to be a US Canada reciprocal CITES agreement, I think the kibosh has been put on that, I will check and see. If not, it would take a CITES permit. That route is prohibitively expensive and takes about three months. I will call USF&W on Monday, see what's up.

OK folks we have a winner. JAlexander gave me the most and the best information, although as I expected there is no answer to my question

Mark,

Information about contraband ivory in the USA is hard to track, but here's a couple more tidbits for you:

"From 1989 to 2007, the
number of seizures of illegal ivory made
by the Service accounted for about 30%
of all the reported seizures in the world.
Since the vast majority of seizures in the
United States were small quantities, we
do not believe that there is a significant
illegal ivory trade into this country."

And Joe's right, not that I doubted him:

James

Congratulations James , PM me your address and I will send your ivory.
